As an end to end game, SC is a brilliant concept with some good elements delivered, yet with a lot to come. The stars of the show are the ships - funding the game to the tune of hundreds of millions. All that said - the most fun I've had with sci-fi games recently is with Starfield. Specifically, ship building using kits. There's nothing like making your own walk-in vessel and then taking it to the stars. Now No Man's Sky is doing it and, although I've not been interested in the game to date, I'm pretty interested in Corvette building and may go for the £20 deal on Steam. I can't see a way that CIG can deliver an experience like this, can you?
