Let me preface this first and foremost by vehemently stating, this isn't a sales pitch for nor a glowing recommendation of the latest SC wannabe on Steam, called Qanga. The game ultimately is pure jank. So put your torches and pitchforks away. Rather, this is more a plea to CIG to consider my words carefully, and take notice. While this game is by no means a Star Citizen killer or even a serious threat to CIG's bottom line, you can rest assured it's going to do one thing: It's going to invite controversy. Because unlike ED and NMS, this janky, plucky lil Steam game not only aims to copy a lot of the very essence of SC, it unfortunately does some things better. And therein lies the controversy. Or to put it more succinctly: For every nine things it gets wrong in relation to Star Citizen, it not only gets one right... in numerous cases, it does it better. I've spent the past few hours doing a thorough analysis of the game's mechanics, the very lifeblood it blatantly steals from SC. And it really does pain me to say, it does some things we could only dream CIG would do. For starters, the inventory system. While the pros/cons of the current 3.24 inventory system have been hotly debated to death here on Spectrum and elsewhere, the inventory system this game utlilizes has all the hallmarks of SC inventory of old, but much more streamlined, functional and far less aggravating. Stacking is seamless. When you move an item, it stays there. Wonderous. Second: elevators, terminals and shuttle transit. Three major sources of irritation for many a citizen, they are accomplished here with zero hiccups. I fully understand most of the issues with these in SC have more to do with the server-side approach to them rather than some sort of coding mishap, but even while playing on this other game's online servers, they still run flawlessly. No lag, no stuttering or janky movement, no falling through to your demise. Maybe that will change if they ever have a 100 pop server, but from my experience, they perform in ways I could only dream SC would. Shuttle transit in particular is well thought out, with screens displaying arrival/departure times for multiple locations, and works flawlessly. You board, you ride, you disembark. Best of all, the shuttles don't try to phase through the fifth dimension on their way to their destination. That's always nice... Third, as seen in the attached screenshots, is the onscreen planetary status, which SC has been sorely missing. Temperature, rain chance, remaining daylight and time to revolve around the system are all on display. They stole from SC, maybe in this case SC could swipe a little back xD Fourth, vehicle requests and refueling. I have to give the win over to Qanga on these two points. In regards to vehicle summoning, rather than having a single moving hangar floor to bring up all vehicles like SC (A Pulse being called inside an XL is the stuff of comedy gold), each type of vehicle has its own dedicated elevator Ground vehicles, like SC, are called from a garage... and ships are called from not one, but two different sized ground elevators. Small and large. And that is something SC is sorely missing in the current 3.24 persistent hangar configuration. Please for the love of all that is holy, implement something similar, CIG. As far as refueling goes... it is paradise in comparison. Rather than having to bunny hop on wishy washy pads, just hoping you can get refueled as you navigate an irritating interface, you simply land at the designated refueling pads and the tanks fill automatically, while at the same time money is being deducted a bit at a time. If anything else, THIS is the vision Chris should have had in regards to fueling. Simple, clean and closer to real life than what we currently have. Even the ground vehicle refueling is reminiscent of actual gas pumps. No wondering IF you're going to be able to refuel. It just works. Finally, the planetary/interstellar map system. What can I say.... for all this indie clone has going for it, this is by far the most amazing and superior aspect is possesses. Moving between planetary POIs and even celestial bodies in map view is smooth like butter. If anything CIG, you should hire these guys to recode SC's map system. Heck, just buy the rights to this game and crib their version of the Terra system. It's spectacular. There are a number of other points where this sub $20 SC clone excel in comparison, but I'll spare you dear readers the finer points and further rambling. Seriously though CIG... get your proverbial crap together. Because the competition is, and quickly. They may not be at your level yet, but they're circling... and they smell blood in the water. EDIT: Okay so I lied... there's still more features I want to add to that list, only because Qanga did them first, and did them WELL. First? Jet-FRIGGIN'-Packs. Get on that NOW, CIG. Second? Persistent logging. When you relog, you log in RIGHT WHERE YOU LOGGED. No tedious, annoying and nonsensical reappearing at your apartment for yet another sad, boring run of shame back to the Starport. Third? Personal ping. It's not just for ships anymore! Being able to ping your surroundings on foot is magical, and highlighting lootable objects and enemies is even better. And lastly? Being able to highlight and mark POIs right from the viewport. So...uhh... I'm gonna go now and play some Qa....Star Citizen. o7, citizens!
