Elite has been slowly expanding over the years and I think their continued investment in adding features to the game like planets and the large Odyssey expansion is clearly in response to the continued success of Star Citizens funding and interest. There is no doubt that almost all publishers and developers are looking at the monumental success of SC's funding through virtual ship sales and wondering how they can incorporate something along these lines into their games. Do you think Elite would entertain the idea of adding lots of new ships to the game with the option to purchase with real money? These would all be available in game but would require a long grind to obtain much like Star Citizen. They could follow similar marketing to CIG and have their own store. I must stress that I do not think that it is a good idea but from a business point of view, it seems mad not to try and get a slice of the virtual spaceship market. They would not be able to sell ships for anywhere near as much as CIG though as they are nowhere near as complex or have the same fidelity.
