Blood Bay, Fairo - Preliminary Hydrologic Survey Heydan Seegil Independent Researcher New Babbage, Microtech, Stanton Abstract Pyro V is surrounded by a number of moons each with their own unique features but few as interesting as the moon Fairo which is encompassed by a ring-shaped ocean about the equator. Evidence of a prehistoric volcanic past gives way to signs of modern life from Desert Quasi Grazers to brown grasses and ample kelp forests. Exploring a previously undocumented bay now known as the "Blood Bay" has yielded some interesting finds as the mixture of heavy atmosphere and strong currents has created a most provocative location. Introduction One can imagine long when Pyro [1] was a much younger star that it held all the planets in perfect alignment with the moons of Pyro V [2] happily transversing their orbits around the planet. As Pyro aged it began to tug at these orbits in a constant struggle against Pyro V which once was much closer to its moons. As this happened the surface of Fairo [3] erupted, volcanos formed, and the moon nearly ripped in half had its seas drained to the center where they still run around the equator despite the dormant seismic activity. In this paper a location which would prove useful for studying currents entering and exiting the bays which attach to the ocean was explored. While there was some effort to catalog the Flora, Fauna, and Geology of the "Blood Bay" the main focus was on the hydrology of the location. Location The "Blood Bay" featured in Figures 1-2 can be found from orbit simply by navigating to OM5 and looking downwards. The mouth of the bay aligns with the northern bank of the ocean which rings the moon's equator. Naming and Description The name of the bay was derived from the red waters which flow into and out of it. The "Blood Bay" is slightly browner than the bright red ocean it is attached to due to swirling tidal forces and a shallower seabed. The mouth of the bay is located on the southeastern side of the bay and aligns along the northern bank of the river which spans the equator of the moon Fairo. There are several dormant volcanos surrounding the bay as well as on islets within the bay. Enviromental Warnings Seen in Figure 3 there is breathable atmosphere, and the temperatures are survivable for humankind; however, due to the density of the atmosphere breathing is labor intensive without a suit. As such an environment suit is recommended for exploration of Fairo. Observations Before examining the primary focus of this study, the other non-hydrology related observations made are displayed in Figures 4-9 which included evidence of prior volcanic activity around the "Blood Bay", fertile grasses upon which the local Desert Quasi Grazer's feed, some interesting geological formations and the kelp forests which line the coasts of the ocean and bay. There were several volcanos all around the bay which undoubtedly created the location as the moon underwent massive tectonic activity being pulled into a new orbit by the aging of Pyro similar to the effect Europa undergoes between Jupiter and the Sun in the Sol System. [4] There are also grasses in the location in great abundance resulting in a large number of Desert Quasi Grazers around the "Blood Bay. These grasses typically grew on the flatter more open areas but could also be found among the more interesting geology discovered which was clearly non-volcanic. Finally, the kelp shown in Figures 10-11 was the most interesting specimen as it gives the water shown in Figure 12-13 of both the bay and the ocean a greenish pigment when viewed from under the surface. This proves that the red color we see from the surface is no due to a particulate as previously hypothesized by the scientific community. [5] After testing the surface and underwater under various lighting conditions, both in the field and in a controlled environment. It appears what is occurring on Fairo is the surface of the water is trapping and ionizing light the radiation from this process changes the visible light we see reflecting back off the surface of the water resulting in a red hue. [6] [7] The Hydrology of the bay was very interesting alongside the observations about how the color of the water is derived. There were strong currents on the surface pulling the water in the bay out to sea but under the surface the current flowed into the bay creating a circular current and bringing fresh nutrients to the flora that thrive along the bank of the bay. This was evident by the long crawls of flattened ocean and sea floor leading into the bay shown in Figure 14. Going from the bay to the ocean was a task as currents picked up tremendously the further from the bay one went pulling one as the flowed from west to east. The depth of the ocean was undetermined due to the irregularity of the ocean floor. The strong current constantly shifts the bottom, but it was dark enough to limit visibility at the lowest point shown in Figure 15. Conclusion There would be a lot to be gained from further research in the location of the "Blood Bay" for a number of disciplines. Learning how to tackle the currents could prove useful for advancements in irrigation or better moorings on alien worlds. The indication that the color of the water is derived from a visible spectrum of light could potentially led to the development of cheaper lighting gels. This is not to mention the countless specimens of flora and fauna in the region which would also benefit from further study. As such more rigorous examination of the "Blood Bay" in called for.
