The serene silence of space, the occasional thump caused by floating debris. It's so easy to just zone out while traveling in the big black, it brings me back to the good old days. The days where I spent time with my family, when we could smile and enjoy each other's company, life seemed so perfect, careless bliss. I remember looking into my daughter's eyes, seeing them shine and the love that they held, I remember her laugh and her smile, just like her mother's. My family was perfect, even if they had some rather unwanted knacks like leaving the milk out of the fridge and stuff, but perfect nonetheless. As we all know, life is similar to that of an ocean. There are times when the peaceful and calm waters just seem endless, but eventually a storm rolls in, and the waves become violent, and thrash at anything that gets in it's way. The storm that dealt the final blow, was the fact that the Vanduul invaded our solar system, I escorted my family to an evacuation shuttle, and watched leave our home. I was part of the UEE's Military, I took an oath of enlistment and promised to protect all that stands as a threat to the security of the UEE. I reported to my Sergeant, and got directed to the spaceport that held my Gladius. I spoke to my mechanic, and received the regular "Good luck". I changed out of my tropic button-up, and struggled to put on the skin-tight flight suit, and double checked to make sure the seal was secure, and then walked straight to my Gladius and mounted up. As I saluted the Crew chief, I get ready to be catapulted straight into the stars. As per my tradition, I closed my eyes and thought of my family, they were my pride and the reason why I am fighting today, but I was not ready for what I was about to see. I launched, and headed straight for the Evacuation shuttles to provide escort, that was my assigned duty, while the rest of my squadron fought off the Vanduul in an attempt to distract them, but by the time I arrived to escort the shuttles, there was nothing but debris. Hundreds of people were drifting in space with nothing but their last expressions on their face. As I slowly accelerate forward, I start to panic, and look frantically for my family, hoping that maybe they survived this massacre. I arrived upon a shuttle that was not completely scuttled, and I immediately rush over to board it, with my Model II Arclight in hand. My family was indeed on that craft, but they did not survive, in fact, they have died in the worst possible way. All over the walls of the interior were scarred with Vanduul blade marks. My family was slaughtered, like cattle in a box, I held my wife's hand, with tears in my eyes, and attempted to kiss my daughter's forehead through my helmet, and placed my daughter in her mother's embrace. From this moment forward, I will shall be a force to be reckoned with, the Vanduul have created one of the most dangerous people in the universe, a man with nothing to lose. I served the UEE through multiple tours, and have seen action on many fronts against the Vanduul. Eventually the UEE retired me due to having a personal connection to fighting the Vanduul, and being called, "Unnaturally cruel" towards how I execute the Vanduul. I have successfully raided Vanduul settlements, I have fought Vanduul in many ranged encounters, and I have even survived a confrontation with a Vanduul in a melee duel, but just barely, and to be quite honest, I only won due to having a spare pistol in my boot. For a while, I felt useless, sitting at my bunk waiting to get called upon to add more kills to my count. But there never came another call, at least, until the UEE Reserves gave me a call, and asked me to join their ranks to provide them with my services, I just simply couldn't resist this offer, and accepted. All that the Reserves said to me was, "When we talk, we'll act like our comms went dark."
