The U4A-3 Terrapin-class vessel glides into the fringes of the solar system. "Put her in quiet mode, kid." comes the gruff voice from the cockpit. "Calls me kid, one more time..." answers the voice from the sensor suite, and energy management seat, buried in the Terrapin. The brief flicker from the jump point passes unnoticed, as the Terrapin goes silent, gliding into the Solar System, in a decaying spiral orbit along the ellipitical, towards the sun. "Welcome to Oberon system, home to raiding Vanduul on occasion." "Yeah, I know where we are, Fitz, I was the one who was drafted remember?" "Ah, come on Leeroy, it's not that bad. We got the easy duty. Glide in, look around, and skeedaddle, before anyone gets curious about us." Replies Fitz with a grin. Leeroy does not looked convinced, as he concentrates on making sure the Terrapin looks like another piece of debris, floating in the black. Time passes, as the Terrapin moves further in system. A brief alert lets the duo know they are approaching Caliban V. Furthest from the sun, and in the gas belt region of the system, it is passed without much notice from the pair. They begin the slide to the asteroid belt, as the orbit will miss Caliban IV. "Come on Leeroy, just one game. Lucy here will let us know if anything interesting happens." Whines Fitz, as he waves a deck of cards. Leeroy hits him with a smirk, "The minute I stop keeping an eye on the board, is when it is going to get crazy. This is my first time out, in dangerous territory. I do not want us to get caught with our pants down!" Leeroy goes back to concentrating on the screen. Fitz, drops back into the pilot seat for a nap. "Going to be a boring 16 hours..." As he covers his eyes. Fitz jumps as the console lets out another chirp, alerting to the coming asteroid field. "Fitz, you up? Would not want to test the armor against those rocks..." chimes Leeroy from the back. "Yeah kid I'm on it." Fitz grumbles as he begins to take in the scans, work a trajectory through the field. "Ya know, unless I mean to hit 'em, we are just going to skate right through the field? "I know, but I am kind of busy back here. The system does not seem to have anyone home right now, but there have been some odd readings, in past the belt. Nothing alarming, just interesting." Leeroy states, in a slightly distracted voice. "Define interesting?" Fitz asks. "Uh, might be info worth money, interesting..." as Leeroy has his fingers playing over a couple of surfaces. "A bonus would be nice, beyond the hazard pay of going into the Hornet's nest..." Fitz turn to the food prep station, putting together some protein for himself, and his companion. Handing Leeroy his food, Fitz leans in to stare at the screens. Leeroy, sounding disgusted, "What the hell is this?!" He stares at the wrapper, "Beef, Onion, and Banana. Who the hell comes up with these flavours?" Exclaims Leeroy. "I figured of the two, that would be the least offensive." Grumbles Fitz around a mouthful of protein bar. "Oh yeah, what did you get?" Asks Leeroy, feeling he was the butt end of a joke. "Uh," Fitz takes a moment to read the wrapper, "Peanut butter, and Tilapia." As he takes another mouthful. "How can you eat that stuff?! I can smell it now, over the smell of Lucy, here!" Leeroy chokes down his bar, just barely. "The secret, be hungry, before you stuff it into your mouth!" Fitz breaks into a fit of laughter at his own joke. His laugh is choked off, as the board lights up. "Holy shi-" Leeroy's reply is never finished, as his fingers fly over the board, checking to make sure Lucy is as quiet as possible. The reason floats out of jump point Orion, not far from their location. Fitz dives back into the cockpit, strapping himself into the seat, in case things get hot. "Would you look at that..." comments Fitz, most of the bluster gone, as the second Kingship, moves from the jump point. Speaking quietly, as if the Kingships can hear them, through the void, "Your call, Fitz. Do we stay, and see what they are up to, or bug the hell out, before they see us?" "I say, we follow 'em, and see what they're up to..." As Fitz, gently nudges the thrusters, on a course to follow the two massive Vanduul ships. Tune in next week, to see what becomes of Lucy, and her intrepid crew. Will they get any good information? Will they be spotted, and have to flee for their lives?! To be continued in the next installment of: Firefight Fridays!
