Crusader Security hired me to investigate a wreck of a Starfarer, hanging just outside of Delamar inside asteroid cluster UEE649. Some pirates had a done a real job on it, scattering pieces across the whole field. Unfortunately, they were long gone by the time I arrived, but I'm nothing if not thorough. I'd been hired to do a job, and I was going to do it. I brought up my local starmap and noticed another asteroid cluster close by, shrouded in dust clouds that would make it a perfect hiding place for a pirate base of operations. I pointed my trusty F7C out into the void and set out on my reconnaissance to 2913-UEE620. Upon arriving at the shattered debris of rock and dust, I booted up my scanner and looked for any hits. Unfortunately, all I got back was static. The clouds and convoluted interior of the space resulted in a confused mess of ghosts and false positives. It was with no small amount of trepidation that I flew slowly into the cloud. I set my back to Delamar for a frame of reference, as my scanners would be of no help in this soup. Once inside, I coasted silently along, all systems running dark except the minimum required for life support and flight control. I was conscious that at any moment, the pirates I had come to find might spot me first instead. While I was no combat ace, I'd survived my fair share of scrapes, but I knew that even the best would fall before superior numbers. I'd place bets on me and my F7C in an open fight, but here, encased in this shrouded zone my maneuverability would be greatly hindered and the pirates would take me down without much trouble at all. It was with this thought I realised just how alone and far from home I was, with nothing but my wits and my ship to keep me alive. Somehow, I'd even managed to get turned around. Despite my best efforts to navigate by triangulation of the sun and nearby planet, there was Delamar before me. One minute it had been at my back, the next I'd drifted through another bank of haze and gotten turned around. There was nothing else I could do but turn back into the murk and try again.
