A roleplaying story of real events in LIVE today /Memo Begins Today I was minding my own business, hauling some refined cargo around the 'verse, when an emergency call came in. "More folks stranded at the August Dunlow Spaceport. Crusader emergency services overwhelmed! Volunteers requested!" I sighed to myself "Will Crusader ever get those hangar repairs finished?.. Oh well, back unto the breach." Like usual I wrapped up my job, and put on my emergency rescue cap, and prepared to hop into my trusty old Cutlass RED. That's when the follow up came in, the call I never thought I'd hear. One of lament and loss and defeat for myself and my fellow rescue-taxis. "ADS elevators disabled! Rescue Volunteers unable to lift off stranded individuals!" Stopping in my tracks, I realized that Crusader had never gotten around to installing basic ladders for emergencies like this, probably lost in funding somewhere, and now those folks really were stuck. I turned around and stored my RED. Preparing to pour one out for the stranded folks, when a sudden idea struck me. A silly, crazy, amazing idea. With extreme irony to boot. I paused my hand over the 'retrieval button' and opened up emergency long-range comms to Orison. "To those who are stuck... I may have a way to save you... It's crazy, and I make no promises... But it's here." They listened to my offer, and after some uncertainty decided to agree, it was worth a shot. So i pulled up my Crusader Hercules and set flight for Crusader, a mix of dread and delight blooding my system. "If this works, it'll be amazing. Boy am I crazy." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arriving above Orison, with no repair crews in sight, I set my Herc into a hover and went down to open the front hangar doors. I then rushed back to the pilot seat and homed in on their comms signatures. And slid up as close as I could to the balcony they were standing at, overlooking part of the space port. "That's too far... i don't think I can make it!" one of them cried out. The other slapped him on the back encouragingly, and took the running leap of faith... And after a second of free-fall and wondering about their life choices, they landed on the edge of the hangar door and rolled safely inside. The other looked carefully over the edge, thought about it, turned back.. Then with a running leap, jumped over the edge... The last thing we heard was the 'thump' as they slammed into the edge of the door and went plummeting into the core of the planet. After giving a moment to realize what happened, I then came on over the intercom "Whelp... That's what modern regeneration is for.." and set flight for Seraphim station, 50% of my intended passengers in tow... A lot better than i thought it would be. I even sent 100k to the poor widow of our lost soul, just in case the regeneration failed. /Memo End (Yes, this actually happened. all elevators to the hangars were dead. So I had the crazy idea of offering the two folks a leap of faith into the herc... One succeeded, the other failed. Felt I should share and thought this the best place.)
