Space Whales live on 2-3 planets which are mostly water, like 99% water or some kind of similar alien liquid. They are large but very remote and hidden worlds, and this is where they live all their lives. Every several decades/hundred years (depending on the lifespan of the Whales), they take the very very long journey through space (years) to another smaller, water-based planet, which is a sort of meeting ground. It is on this one planet that they find a suitable partner to mate, and then they make the long journey back to their home planet to give birth and raise their young and live. They travel through space by holding their breath, which takes years to prepare for but these are massive ancient creatures. When they are of old age and ready to die, they make the long trip back to this meeting ground planet, nobody quite knows why they go back here to die. As such, this meeting ground is strewn with interesting vegetation along with the giant bones of Space Whales that have passed away. It is theorised that the vegetation that is grown from the deceased whales gives off some interesting properties that make it an ideal fertile atmosphere for space whales to mate. These mysterious properties also prevent this planet from showing up on even the most powerful of scanners. So on the extremely rare occasion you see a Space Whale flying through space, judging by signs of age you can tell whether it is going to mate, on its way back home to give birth, or die. Humans/Alien races have threatened the existence of Space Whales by illegally going to this 'meeting ground' planet and harvesting some of the plants and vegetation there as it has extreme healing/mind altering properties, damaging its environment. Visiting this planet is subject to extreme regulation and top secret access and must be for research purposes only, which must have the approval of several space authorities (UEE, Xi'an etc). Any visits require armed guard supervision at all times, and only those with 5 star ratings in personnel/military escort can take these missions. Any illegal organic matter that finds its way into the black market is of immense value and comes with immediate and hefty penalties/criminal ratings if caught with it. It has been alleged that small quantities of this organic matter has been refined down or 'cut' with other chemicals to produce larger synthetic quantities of illegal substances, which are more readily available on the black market. Once rare, Space Whales are now possibly endangered, however as we do not know the location of their home planets we are unsure how many are left. We have tried to follow them home but as following them would take years it is beyond any human lifespan to follow, and possibly even a few humans who have followed them have never returned, either due to old age, running out of fuel, or maybe they discovered a land that they did not want to share with others. This could be the 1% land mass on the Space Whales home planet. Space Whales may never actually make it into the game, but if they do I thought it would be good to give them some context and history rather than just have them flying about for no reason other than 'cool its a space whale!'; they are giant, highly intelligent and sentient creatures with a deep history.
