I was talking in a thread to someone about the Looting mechanics and the intention for anything and everything to be liftable from a player, and it occurred to me: that is, to be fair, very realistic - being knocked down and someone going through your pockets could happen to anyone, and does, Muggings happen all the time. What isn't realistic, it dawned on me, is if that person who is willing to mug someone then goes to the nearest shop and can't just take whatever they want off the shelves and walk off with it. The food, drink and Wowblast darts on the counter tops, the armour on the dummies, the hats on the shelves, the coats and shirts on the hangars... if it has a price and you can have hands on it, it should all be lootable. You can pick a gun off a display and inspect it in your very own hand, why can't you inspect it all the way out the door without paying? It might be difficult as the shop keeper would try to stop you, but so would the player you intend to loot from... It just doesn't make sense I can wait for someone to buy a gun from the shop, knock them over when they leave the door and pull it out of their pocket and run away, but I can't just pick it up and walk out of the shop with it? And Shoplifting wouldn't just be for the sake of realism - for balance shop lifting would be a necessity to avoid people being turned in to loot pinatas just because a player down on their luck with zero Credits in their pocket and are starting to starve/dehydrate and can't get any food or drink without cash or going through someone else's pockets. Until we have a zero cost way of keeping ourselves alive like drinking from rivers and eating the foliage and wildlife around us, we need some way of feeding ourselves which doesn't involve a payment - and Shoplifting is one clear way of doing that. Hope the idea helps I look forward to seeing it in game if it is justified by the team as a viable mechanic :slightly_smiling_face:
