Introduction The 600i in general has been described as a beautiful ship on the outside, with an interior that does not utilize space very well and seems to lack functionality especially on the Explorer variant. This is a backer created proposal for an Interior, Exterior and functionality rework to the Explorer variant to the 600i. This proposal is created with the understanding that Origin is a Luxury brand. That being said, this proposal suggests a slight change in direction where Origin also produces ships heavy on functionality while retaining the highest standard for fit and finish. Exterior Rework Move aft turret to the top-center of the ship, giving this turret a 360 degree view just like the bottom turret. … or downgrade the aft turret to S2 guns and add an additional turret on the top center of ship w/ S3 guns. Update the arm that the turrets extends on, to show more substance or integrity. One Way Privacy Glass with on/off functionality. Remove Glass Ceiling over aft bar area and replace with solid metal. Removal of the glass ceiling is to facilitate breaking the area up into separate compartments for the proposed Sick Bay and Captain’s suite. Interior Rework - Top Deck Bridge Bridge floor should be flattened so that it's even and smooth. Large floor panel lighting should be deleted from the floor. Create 2 additional aft stations behind the pilot for each remote turret gunner. Forward stations in-front of the pilot should be repurposed as co-pilot and scanning stations. Delete pilot high-chair, replace with fixed, raised floor seat and combined physical / holographic HUD & MFDs. Lighting on the bridge should be direct, crisp white light using pin-spot light sources to produce intimate direct lighting around the stations. Elevator / Escape Pod area behind the bridge remains unchanged Current Scanning / Stellar Cartography Room - DELETE Create an area that houses the crew quarters with 4 individual rooms just like in the touring version of the 600i so that each crew member has their own space and individual bathrooms. The center area between the rooms is the social area with a table for eating and games like playing cards. The center area between the rooms also has a small kitchen and mini-bar. The floor in this entire area is solid, not transparent as it is in the current ship. Lighting in this habitation area should be warm and relaxing, utilizing pin-spot light sources to produce a direct but intimate lighting effect. Elevator / Hallway leading to rear area remains unchanged Tri Level Bar, Lounge, Kitchen and Social Area - DELETE (This area will require a significant redesign) Create a Captain’s suite with a view from the back of the ship, with its own kitchenette, minibar, bathroom, office and equipment locker. Basically a miniature version of the Captain’s suite from the 890J. Ideally located at the far aft lounge area behind the bar utilizing the large aft window. Create a sickbay with at least one size 2 medical bed for re-spawning and any other necessary features. Ideally located in place of the aft bar encompassing the upper area. NOTE: The current suggestions involve the upper portion of this tri-level, the lower space would become a new mid deck, housing engineering which is explained later. Interior Rework - Lower Deck Forward facing Captain’s Quarters - DELETE ReDesign as a Stellar Cartography room with a hologram in the center and stations to the back of the room. One of the rear stations focuses on detailed scanning and would provide enhanced functionality over the bridge scanning station if that’s a feature in the game. The other rear station would control scanning drones or probes launched from the ship. The existing window / view would remain completely intact as it currently exists. Lighting in this room would crisp white light identical to the bridge, however would dim when the center hologram is activated. Master Bathroom - DELETE Replace the Master Bathroom Door with a solid wall which would be adjacent to one of the stations mentioned above. This area is completely replaced with a ship to ship docking collar. Entry to the area is opposite the existing elevator. Elevator / Hallway leading to the rear area remains mostly unchanged. Add an entry to the new ship to ship docking collar described above. Cargo Room and Elevator Platform This room remains largely unchanged in the forward, left and right sections with small exceptions. The rear or aft portion of this room is completely opened up and extended as far back as possible for additional cargo capacity. Hallway leading to existing crew quarters - DELETE This area becomes part of the extended cargo space with a ramp leading to the lower, aft section of the ship The aft elevator leading to Top Deck may need to be relocated to provide access to the proposed lower cargo area, proposed mid engineering area and to provide direct access to the propsed sick-bay if possible. Lower Crew Quarters in rear section of the ship - DELETE This area becomes part of the extended cargo space in the lower section of the ship Lower Crew Bathroom / Showers - DELETE Convert this area into an equipment locker room and armory The wall with the escape pods remains intact to provide an avenue of escape from the lower deck of the ship Lower Crew Escape Pods & Equipment Lockers - Mild Rework Leave existing escape pods in place. Remove crew bathroom door space and replace it with a solid wall. I suggest a mild redesign to facilitate suite storage and weapon storage essentially creating an armory and equipment locker. Interior Rework - Mid “Engineering” Deck (NEW) The lower portion of the “Tri Level Bar, Lounge, Kitchen and Social Area” This area is repurposed as a sealed off individual deck housing engineering and combined with the existing engineering rooms to either side of the existing kitchen. Extended fuel tanks would be located in this area. Access to all components would be located here. Drone / Probe bay would be located in what is currently the room with the pool table. A utility or repair area for components would be located in the current kitchen and dining area. Access to this Mid “Engineering” Deck would be from the aft elevator if it is possible to relocate it so it can access the proposed cargo area, engineering deck and sickbay. This deck could also have lower ceilings to make room for the rear Captain's Suite and Sick Bay as well as the lower cargo hold. Lighting in the engineering deck should follow the existing lighting in the small engineering sections present in the 600i today with direct, crisp white light, highlighting with the use of pin-spot lights the engineering console and any relevant access hatches. NOTE: I am making the assumption that this referenced area is directly above the existing crew quarters. A Few Additional Notes NOTE Regarding the Cargo Area: This redesign is intended to double or triple the size of the cargo area and allow some versatility in this section of the ship. The idea is that the cargo grid would exist in the aft area currently housing the crew quarters and crew bathroom. This area could be used for purchasing cargo, or could be used to house land vehicles driven off the elevator platform. NOTE Regarding Engineering: The purpose of an expanded engineering section is to give the player(s) greater versatility with the ship in its Exploration variant. Extended fuel tanks give the ship greater Quantum and Hydrogen fuel resulting in greatly extended range. The drone bay offers the owner the ability to explore certain areas from the comfort of their ship. The utility / repair area allows the player to repair or service components damaged due to conflict or simple use. NOTE Regarding Launching Drones: Drones would be launched from the rear of the shift in the black area between the engines. Closing Comments The idea behind this redesign is two fold. For one, the areas of the ship are redesigned in a way that would allow CIG to incorporate all of this into the Explorer as a single variant, or CIG could redesign the sections of the ship and sell them all as individual modules. If a player doesn’t like the redesign of the Bridge and Stellar Cartography, they can opt to keep the current Bridge and Captain’s quarters.. Whether the 600i Explorer is re-designed as a variant or continues to utilizes individual modules, this proposal greatly enhances the functionality of the interior and the ship as a whole. While the 600i Explorer is not a direct competitor to the Carrack, these changes make it a viable alternative and a strong competitor / alternative to the Corsair. My goal in this re-design is to position the 600i Explorer as Origin’s answer to the Carrack with their own “Home” campaign, while also showing off their impeccable choice of materials and unparalleled fit and finish as compared to Drake’s utilitarian Corsair. A commercial theme for this rework could follow the narrative... "Why would anybody call an old military ship home, when you can take a luxury yacht, add state of the art technology to it and have a home away from home with unparalleled comfort for you and your crew." In a sense, Origin could almost take a dig at the Carrack. :slightly_smiling_face: The 600i Explorer needs to be fast, it's a luxury ship and as with luxury cars, the engine you get is typically a step above the norm. The 600i Explorer needs to be quiet like a luxury car, you should barely hear nose when you're in Quantum and the regular engines should sound muted through out the ship unless you exposed to them in Engineering.
