We often tend to complain about things we don't like. At the same time, we fail to praise good things. Regarding to Spectrum, SC and the ongoing developement, there is always the danger of reacting hastily to criticism and in the end everything will become much worse for the quiet rest (hello stork legged 400i...). Please listen before upgrading any weapons! Here are my personal thoughts about the Polaris with it's latest armament and why it's pretty much the right way! GOOD JOB CIG!! For me, I would like to keep an specialized ship were I can decide to use it in situations, were it's dominating instead of having a ship which can't to anything really good! This ship was originally designed without heavy weapons except the torpedoes and it fits pretty well to the ship, it's role and intendet gameplay. The focus on smaller weapons allows the maximum effectivity against small and medium ship attacks, sacrifiying any small turrets for bigger turrets/guns would make the Polaris more vulnerable at all without much benefit. 1. With it's actual specialziations, the Polaris can a few things very good: - hit and run capital ships with torpedoe attacks - dominating combat fields with hostile fighters, small and medium ships as opponents (which makes it best choice for patrol missions f.e.) - landing and rescue operations with cover against small ground targets If we would sacrificed one or two of the medium turrets for larger ones, they become pretty useless against small and medium ships. On the other side it would'n change anything against capital ships. The Polaris can't survive broadside combats with Idris, Javelin or even a Kraken - no matter if there were a S7 turret or not. That's fine, because this ship is not designed for that. Even if there cross a larger sub-capital ship, the Polaris can already deal with it. 2. Yes, it has it's weaknesses - like every other ship! - there are blind spots - no large weapons for large ships except the (expensive and slow) torpedoes Like every other ship, it has weaknesses and that is absolutly okay! Sacrifiying small turrets to larger ones will only make it more vulnerable against smaller ships and the Polaris will lost much of it's survivability in most scenarios without the same amount of benefit. 3. It has already strategic opportunities to deal with different threats, including larger ships: - torpedoes - missiles - choice of the personal best fitting hangar ship(s) - many medium turrets - taking assistance - escaping dangerous situations 4. Bigger weapons may tempt their captains to the "wrong" gameplay for that ship and that will inevitably lead to their destruction. And we all know how this will end: instead of changing their tactics, people will complain about a "weak" ship and want much more changes (flying fortress). Bye bye fast, sneaky hit and run ship, hello "every ship has the same pew pew gameplay". 5. Like all other ships - especially the highly specialized ones - there must be an incentive for building fleets with other ship, which cover the weaknesses of you own! (Hey Perseus, I guess you need a hammerhead to your side instead of more small turrets.) 6. People has to consider the Polaris will also be an opponent ship in missions/threats out there! If it will be an "egg-laying jack-of-all-trades" poeple will complain after their first hostile Polaris, because they don't know how to defeat them.... In summary, I can only say, please CIG, stay strong and stick to the original concept of the ship! Only you see the ships and the gameplay objectively and no one has put as much work into the concept as you. It's not your concept that has to adapt, but rather the players have to learn to understand your original intention.
