I personally don't know how the Torpedoes actually are supposed to work. What we actually have With the very slow speed and limited to one-by-another fireing mode there is zero chance of hitting a target. "Smaller" ships fly away (which is okay), capitals with PDC have no issues to shoot them all down. >>> So the plan you told us is, we have to deactivate shields and defences first. This means a long-lasting direct fight between the Polaris and the opponent capital ship (and there support ships) begins, until the shields are broken and the defence, especially the PDCs are down. When the hostile capital is without shields and defence, the Torpedoes can be used to destroy the ship. This can now also be done by common weapons (even if it will take much longer). But as we often heared by CIG, it's not supposed to destroy larger ships. They should be left in downstate and entered - maybe this is also the only way to gain enough reward/loot for compensate the large invest of such fight. But the conclusion is: >>> Torpedoes are just a money sink when trying to bring down the shields. >>> There is no hit and run, we will enter a long-lasting and direct confrontation, were a Polaris was not supposed to survive originally. >>> Torpedoes are contraproductive to finally destroy an hostile ship. I personally can't see overall any economical efficient use for the large Torpedoes at this moment. I know, there is lot's of balancing necessary, but I like to know what is the "new" plan with the Polaris: Where did you see (Devs) this ship in future compared to other capitals, when the overall balancing approaches? Will it be an hit-and-run ship again, or will there be only "one" way to fight a capital ship (that one you told us: shields >>> PDC >>> entering/destruction)? Will the Polaris just turn into "a combat capital ship" without any future tactical differences between them? ##################### Edit #1: (16.12.) I'm fine with it's guns and I have come to terms with the interior layout, even if the med bay could be a bit more "med". I'm also fine if the Polaris is no longer supposed to fight capitals at all (But I have no answer if this means we do not need the Torpedoes at all... ) I'm just cusious if there is a plan and in which direction the balancing team is aiming. EDIT #2: (17.12.) Maybe the answer is, Torpedoes are actually unnecessary against a "small" Idris or Javelin. We will need them later in PvE-Combats agains large Vanduul ships, which may not have PDCs. Or other Ship-sized world bosses, like a Bengal captured/repaired by criminals and also without PDCs but very strong turrets/shields. And as we know from Q&A, the Polaris is not build for a "broadsight-combat" with other capitals, so it is not supposed to fight without significant support against equal-sized capital ships, until there are f.e. PvE fleet fights against really large enemies. ###################### What I can imagine, but not shure if we really will see any hit-and-run again: Torpedo fireing sequence speed goes up and with some kind of "Torpedo spam" the shields of an enemy ship can be broken by overwhealming the PDC defence. Or maybe we will get some other possibilities for some temporary PDC disturbance, like ewarefare/hacking gameplay? Torpedoes stay highly expensive as they are, this means you have to loot the hostile capital ship for gaining enough reward to make this combat economical. Torpedoes must also used carefully to leave the hostile ship in a lootable downstate or the reward is lost. To balance this, Polaris must get weaker defence and has to avoid long-lasting direct confrontations >>> just hit and run until the enemie shields are down and the suppoort ships can deal with the hostile capital defence first, until the Polaris returns to the combat.
