He was once sent to the office for making propeller motions with his privates chanting "to impress a chick, do the helicopter dick". After meeting with the principle she admitted "he is absolutely correct".

When asked why she tolerates him, his wife replied "He touched my heart, literally touched it. I had to have surgery after the first time. Totally worth it, huge!"

David joined the Navy an enlisted marine, got his degree, then started officer training. At roll once his last name was pronounced cowbell which stuck. Near the end of flight training, he struck another officer stating "following policy for policy's sake is bad policy." and was busted to Sergeant.

When his carrier group was attacked, the ready room was hit by a shot that killed most of the pilots. Sergeant Cabell strapped into a hornet and with the remaining pilots defended the group. He was promoted to officer on the flight deck but, retains the title Sergeant.

He has since left the Navy and seeks to make his fortune among the stars.
