Jak was born on Spider in the Cathcart system. His family was part of an extended clan of what can only be called space gypsies, making their way as scrappers, smugglers, free lance cargo runners, and even tough explorers. His clan had a fleet of around 150 ships, most refurbished and scabbed together from abandoned military, industrial, and civilian ships. His 500 or so member clan was part of the Rust Society and wandered the fringes of the known verse making money were they could. But on a return visit to Cathcart 10 years ago, his clan got caught between major warring pirate factions. Most of his family died and this clan was dispersed in all directions. Jak eventually ended up in Stanton after a few years of wandering. His goal is to recover as many of his lost clan ships as possible, and add them to his own growing fleet. Jak is always on the move looking for a new family
