Many years ago, when I got Wing Commander, I sent in the registration card. On it, they had the question, do you have any ideas or comments you'd like to share. On it I wrote -
"Name a ship the Hellcat Mark V"
I'v always wondered if what I wrote had an effect on the decision to use that in the series, and it's been my callsign since I wrote it on that card.
