The alarms beeps incessantly in the background signalling my size 1 laser repeaters heating up into the danger zone. They are too hot, but I need just a little more. This stupid Xenothreat terrorist found me and there is only one left from a group of 3. I'm winning! I am orbiting this Mustang in my Aurora blazing lasers into his shields. His shields first blue turning red under my attack, so soon i'll be through. kchunk

BEEP BEEP

The laser fire stops, overheated. I notice his gimbal nose turret pivoting toward me. I got to get out of here and let me guns cool, I should have splurged on the better coolers. That is what I get for just keeping the stock coolers. I boost toward him aiming below and past. He will have to turn before he can give chase. My shields briefly light up red as a dart past his turning mustang fighter. My bullet like MISC ship pasing his sleek lines of the consolidated outland fighter. its dual engines already primed for this chase. My Aurora is a tank though, its lasted me through countless battles already. its a small target looking on from the back and is just as fast in a straight away.

We both blast away into open space, as I wait for my coolers to work faster. The dang things, work faster. An alarm starts, its unfamiliar at first. I think its a missile at first and deploy chafe before thinking. Then I remember where I am, in Pyro. Just got in from Hurston last week so I have heard the alarm only a couple times before. I am used to flying in the safety of the hurston star so warm and inviting and no solar flares. The Solar regular flare from the Pyro is almost at me, I can't make it back to the safety of the behind the moon. Thankfully it looks like my attacker will also be caught by the flare I think just before it overtakes me.

My ship lurches to the side, my seat harness pulling harshly against me. Alarms briefly light up my ship before the power cuts off completely and my ship starts drifting to the side.

I need to see what the status of my pursuer is...

I desperately try and toggle the power and reset it. Flipping the breakers as fast as I can to get the reset. Suddenly I spot it the Xenothreat mustang lights off hanging in the black. Thank god it got it as bad as me. I can see the enemy pilot getting out of his seat to fix his systems. shit he didn't see me maybe and my ship is totally dead in the water. He is a local too, so he probably has something that will fix his ship or have a back up power source. I am so screwed...

or maybe...

I leave my ship seat and grab my helmet, securing it in place with a sharp twist. My Mobiglass integrates with it, giving me a heads up display. I grab my arclight pistol and multitool from its place wedged beside my single cot behind the cockpit and holster them both. I know not safe, but its useful out in a unregulated system like pyro. Trying to be as quite as possible like sound would propagate through space I start to cycle the Auroras air out so I can open the outer door hatch. I'm going to sneak out to his ship.

With a hiss the door opens up, the hatch spinning 90 degrees and the door opening with the soft woosh of the remaining air escaping to the open black. I look out the door and I see the grey tones of Pyro III spinning below me and the angry red dying star of Pyro glaring at me hatefully to the right. I regret coming here. Make it rich they said, it will be fun they said, new beginnings! Ha! I only had enough money to buy the flesh traders for 1 measely Regen back in Hurston and if I use Im going to be stuck on a planet doing "safe" jobs until I scrape enough back to get another Regen. No way am I going to risk getting wiped.

I find the mustang the pilot not visible in the cockpit as I push off toward his ship. My spacesuits boosters firing as I go toward his ship

I do hate retail though ughh. I know what Claire will say if I Regen. "I told you so! and you wasted 6 months wages for what? getting killed, is what. Leave this dangerous mining for jaranite to the professionals." It would be the worst. I am born to mine dang it!

I burst closer to his ship toward the back. Mustangs have a small storage compartment under there belly just big enough for a person. Also they are not that secure from a mining laser to the control panel. I arrive at his ships compartment and activate the laser mining head on the control panel. It has a odd glitch where if it detects an error in heat than the whole compartment opens up. Consolidated Outland I heard has fixed it on their later ship but not the mustang.

The storage compartment opens up and slide in. Now the problem is that I can't close it, I really hope this pilot is not going down to a planets surface. The atmosphere would suck me right out of here if the heat from reentry didn't cook me first. Before I see pieces of my ship start flying past, is it my ship? oh yes it is, as I see my Auroras cockpit without the rest of the ship spiral past. My hanging fuzzy dice strangley pristine in the window. Lucky I got out I think as I hear the rumble of the mustang start up and suddenly start boosting away. I get jar to the side and then forward. There is a bar hanging beside me that I hang on for dear life.

If the mustang just started up, what destroyed my ship I think as as I scan the opening behind me for clues. Xenothreat is not the only criminals in Pyro.
