The Drake Corsair, a wonderful ship for BIS 2953.

An amazingly well-designed, well-thought-out ship. It is perhaps the best Drake ship in the ‘verse and is well-deserving of the title, “Best in Show 2953.”

The Drake Corsair is one of the few ships that I honestly feel really deserves to be "Best in Show", but that I’ll never own. It has its quirks and flaws. You have to be careful to keep the pilot in control of the Power Triangle on the MFDs. If control is given to the co-pilot, they can’t access it while in the remote turret. Not ideal should you find yourself in combat. And, it’s a bit of… a choice… that the toilet opens immediately into the kitchen. And, of course, with landing gear that short, it can be a bit tricky finding someplace to land.

But otherwise, the Corsair is a wonderful ship. Walking up the ramp and hitting the buttons to turn on the lights and close the ramp behind you, through a cargo hold large enough to comfortably hold an Ursa, then walking up into Engineering at the core of the ship. The starboard airlock with one of the best gun racks in the ‘verse in addition to your suit lockers. Then on into the main section of the ship. The standard Drake kitchenette and dining table for the crew is simple but functional. It’s an excellent touch that there are three bedrooms for the crew, while the Captain’s Quarters are just off the Bridge. I’m not a fan of remote turrets since I feel you lose too much information. So, I’m a fan of the Corsair’s twin side turrets. They’re not the most powerful, but they have an excellent range of motion. And once you get up to the pilot’s seat, that view. You have plenty of MFDs to keep all your information at your fingertips, but you still have an excellent view of the space around you. When I need a ship in this size class, I tend to fly my 400i or my Mercury. But most of my friends, and my son, have all chosen to fly the Corsair with no regrets. They’ll often have me take the pilot’s seat when we’re flying together, and I like it. It’s an amazingly well-designed, well-thought-out ship. It is perhaps the best Drake ship in the ‘verse and is well-deserving of the title, “Best in Show 2953.”
