Founded in 2949, Shellback Industries traces its origins to a small band of privateers united by a common belief: that honor, discipline, and camaraderie should endure long after military service.

The organization draws its inspiration from the ancient maritime traditions of Old Earth’s Order of Neptune, a ceremonial fraternity whose customs endured for centuries before humanity reached the stars. Throughout history, the title of Shellback was earned—not given—symbolizing perseverance, professionalism, and brotherhood forged through hardship. While oceans eventually gave way to the vast expanse of space, those values remained timeless.

Following the conclusion of his commission with the UEE Navy, Commander Brock Landers sought to preserve those traditions beyond the structured ranks of military service. Investing his life’s savings into the uncertain frontier of the private sector, he assembled a small but capable crew of former servicemen, explorers, privateers, and a handful of morally flexible individuals united by a common purpose: to forge their own path among the stars.

Operating beyond the comfort of UEE-controlled space, the fledgling organization quickly discovered that survival required more than superior ships or heavier weapons. Success depended on trust, professionalism, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to the people flying beside you. Those early expeditions, often conducted in hostile and lawless regions of the verse, became the crucible in which Shellback Industries forged its identity.

As the organization matured, its members pursued countless professions across the Empire. Some became traders moving vital cargo through dangerous systems. Others embraced exploration, industrial operations, security contracting, salvage, or military support. Though their paths diverged, they remained connected by the same traditions and code of conduct established during those formative years.

Today, Shellback Industries stands as more than an organization—it is a community built upon earned respect, disciplined leadership, and shared purpose. Members are encouraged to grow as professionals, develop as leaders, and pass their knowledge to those who follow.

Within the organization, the title of Shellback remains one of the highest honors a member can achieve. It is not awarded for seniority or wealth, but earned through demonstrated leadership, unwavering professionalism, selfless service, and dedication to the success of the team. Every Shellback carries the responsibility of mentoring the next generation and preserving the traditions entrusted to them.

From those traditions came the organization’s military arm: Turtle Brigade.

Tasked with conducting combined-arms operations, mechanized assaults, armored warfare, logistics, and battlefield leadership, Turtle Brigade embodies the discipline and teamwork upon which Shellback Industries was founded. It serves not only as the organization’s combat element, but as the proving ground where new members learn the values that define every Shellback.
