Founding
“The Association of Interstellar Mercenaries: the most professional choice for citizens in need of a qualified hired gun.” — 4.I.M. Inc. brochure
In a shutdown asteroid miner in 2935, the commanding officer, found himself and his crew in the heat of an armed struggle without access to communications and dedicated warriors. With great effort, they launched multiple escape pods and send them to the nearest human outpost for help. The responding rescue party that put an end to the siege was a group of mercenaries financed through minerals excavated.
The commanding officer developed channels that became known as the Association of Interstellar Mercenaries. Vowing that others seeking justice should have access to professional soldiers, the assembled rescue team of men and women became the original members of 4.I.M. Commanders engaged in small scale, private conflicts adopted the organization as a prime resource for labor.
The Aquatic World Outpost
“Thousands of people owe their very existence to our members and our sponsors. And we wish to thank each and every person for their cards and letters of appreciation.” – Gus Spaceballs
Operating in the shadows of military warfare, the organization finallly gained worldwide recognition when they brought the Waterbacteria Conflict to a successful end. It was a hard-fought, island based engagement that sacrificed many lives. Yet, it resulted in securing a steady supply of medically rare and valuable specimens found under the layers of ice.
The Pirate Menace
A year later, citizens around the verse called upon 4.I.M. when the pirate threat tried to monopolize the economy with force. Gus Spaceballs commanded the 4.I.M. operative excursion that brought the pirates to their knees.
The operation proved, beyond a doubt, how crucial private, limited-scale, tactical warfare can be. As a result, 4.I.M. became the model organization to call upon for such missions. The bravery and tenacity he exhibited during the battle against the pirate threat earned Gus Spaceballs membership within 4.I.M.
“He may have the poorest name in the verse, but the world don’t mean shit when you have 4.I.M. mercs watching your back.” – Slab Bulkhead
