History

“First In. Last Out.”

The year is 2956.

The Empire looks stable from the surface. Trade lanes are busy. Corporations expand. Civilian life moves forward.

But beyond the polished landing zones and political speeches.

That’s where the 86th Squadron exists.

***Origins***

The 86th Squadron was originally formed as an independent rapid response aerospace unit during the instability that followed increased pirate expansion and border disruptions across the outer systems.

Officially, they didn’t exist.

Their first deployments were simple:

Escort vulnerable civilian convoys.
Recover stranded crews.
Disrupt pirate logistics.
Hold corridors until larger forces arrived.
Except larger forces rarely arrived.

The 86th became known for accomplishing impossible assignments with minimal manpower and worn-out ships.
Their unofficial nickname spread through local comm channels:
“Ghost Wings.”
Not because they vanished.
Because wherever they showed up, somebody made it home.

***The Breaking Point***

Everything changed during Operation Black Lantern.
An entire civilian transport group disappeared while crossing an unstable route near fringe space.
Recovery forces abandoned the mission after losing contact.
The 82nd refused.
Against orders, they entered the dead zone.

Three days later:

Survivors returned.
Cargo returned.
Flight records returned.

The Squadron returned missing ships.

But they never explained exactly what happened out there.

Since then, old pilots tell stories:

Comms that responded before messages were sent.
Squadron call signs appearing where no ships existed.
Rescue beacons activating years after being destroyed.

The 86th never comments.

***Modern Mission***

Today, the 86th Squadron operates as an elite expeditionary organization.
