History

The Combined Joint Task Force — 3 (CJTF-3) is a UEE-sanctioned but diplomatically flexible “pioneer” task force created to operate in legally ambiguous, high-risk systems where rapid stabilization, civil protection, and kinetics must be balanced with political/diplomatic constraints. It uses an orthodox military structure for command discipline but intentionally integrates civilian authorities (Advocacy, Civilian Defense Force), contractors, and citizen volunteers to project force, deliver humanitarian aid, and coordinate militia and local security networks. CJTF-3 is Terra-chartered and routinely operates at the edge of UEE legal doctrine — always with a Diplomatic Corps liaison aboard to manage fallout.

BACKGROUND

Following a string of rapid crises in “first-five” and frontier systems — violent criminal spillover, Vanduul or XenoThreat probes, and systemic humanitarian shocks in Nyx/Pyro/Castra — the UEE High-Command and the Diplomatic Corps authorized an experimental joint task force able to combine hard military power with civil coordination.

CHARTER + CREATION

The task force’s charter was signed in SEY 2951. It was funded through a special appropriation labeled the “U.E.E. Militia Mobilization Initiative,” intended to rapidly stand up forces that can operate in both lawful and contested systems. Terra served as the administrative sponsor — supplying diplomatic liaisons, legal officers, and a rotating capital ship task group as base of operations.

EARLY DEPLOYMENTS

  • Operation Glass Harbor (Stanton, 2952): Coordinated extraction of civilian scientists after a corporate collapse and militia uprising; Advocacy investigators embedded with CJTF-3 ground elements to preserve legal custody of suspects.
  • Operation Dawn Anchor (Nyx border, 2953): Humanitarian corridor set up under fire; CJTF-3 escorts convoys, negotiates local militia ceasefires, and conducts limited strikes to keep routes open.
  • Castra Line Support (2953): Tactical air support for UEE Navy bombers; CJTF-3 expeditionary elements helped resecure orbital staging points and organize local planetary defense.

LEGAL + POLITICAL STATUS

CJTF-3 is UEE Military-funded and Diplomatic Corps-sanctioned. It has explicit diplomatic cover to act in ways that would otherwise be politically sensitive. The inclusion of the Advocacy and CDF liaisons is essential: the Advocacy’s inter-system criminal authority and the CDF’s militia coordination mandate allows the unit operate in the legal grey without being a rogue militia.

ORG STRUCTURE

The task force is composed of approximately 75 members, composed of operators hand selected from the U.E.E. Navy, Marines and Army military branches, agents from the Advocacy, and select Citizens of the U.E.E. The Task Force is structured to include a command and logistics combat element, a reinforced ground and aviation combat element, and a special operations and reconnaissance element.

Its formation carries influence from classical examples of the Naval Amphibious Ready Groups (ARG) and Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) formations used by the United States Navy and Marines, respectively, in the 21st Century on Earth (Sol III).

CJTF-3 HEADQUARTERS

CJTF-3 COMMAND STAFF:
The Command Staff serves as the strategic and operational core of the organization, balancing military precision with adaptive leadership. Comprised of senior Commanders and specialized Officers, the staff oversees all aspects of readiness, deployment, and mission execution across UEE and frontier operations.

The Task Force Commander and Executive Officer (XO) lead the unit’s overall direction and coordination, while the Alpha, Ares, and Omega Element Commanders manage distinct operational elements and combat groups. Supporting them are the Chief Engineering, Logistics, Medical, and Recruitment Officers—each serving as stewards and experts within their disciplines, conducting research, maintaining infrastructure, and ensuring the task force’s continued readiness and efficiency.

All Command Staff members may hold additional elemental positions within their divisions, reflecting CJTF-3’s philosophy of leadership through participation and multi-domain expertise.

BRANCHES OF SERVICE

CJTF-3 integrates multiple UEE branches alongside the Diplomatic Corps, Contractors, and Mercenaries to create a versatile, multi-domain force capable of responding to complex political, military, and humanitarian challenges. Each element contributes its unique expertise—military precision, legal oversight, specialized skills, or independent combat support—while coordinated command ensures unity of effort. This combined structure allows the task force to operate across the full spectrum of operations, from lawful stabilization to rapid contingency missions, while maintaining flexibility and adaptability.

UEE Navy: Starmen operate and support CJTF-3’s spacefaring assets, providing skilled shipboard crew, flight operations, and orbital mission support across the task force’s deployed theaters.

UEE Marines: Troopers deliver rapid-response assault capability, executing high-risk boarding, ground entry, and expeditionary operations at the tip of CJTF-3’s spear.

UEE Army: Soldiers provide CJTF-3 with adaptable ground-force capability, specializing in planetary security, stabilization, and sustained surface operations in support of joint objectives.

UEE Advocacy: Agent serves as CJTF-3’s embedded legal authority, ensuring all operations remain within intersystem law while providing investigative oversight and actionable intelligence.

UEE Civilian Defense Force: C.D.F. volunteers bolster CJTF-3 with local knowledge, auxiliary manpower, and community-focused support, enhancing stability and resilience during joint operations.

Contractor(s): These Citizens provide CJTF-3 with specialized civilian expertise and mission support, contributing skills and services without formally serving as military personnel.

Mercenaries: Freelancers that act as independent allied assets, offering optional combat support to CJTF-3 while operating outside the organization’s official structure.
