“You can only watch people get torn apart for so long before you decide to do something about it.”

— Riggs Bernardelli-Murtaugh, Commander, BERNMM

History

Early Years: The Recon Legacy

Founded in 2891 by Commander Elias Bernardelli, a decorated UEE Navy scout and recon pilot, BERNMM began as a small but elite independent reconnaissance consultancy. Elias believed that intelligence—not firepower—won wars, and spent his retirement building a crew of ex-military specialists, cartographers, and deep-space trackers. They offered their services quietly to the UEE, and occasionally to independent colonies willing to pay for early warning data.

Their motto was simple:
“We see it before it sees you.”

Throughout the 29th century, BERNMM operated with two or three stealth craft at most, quietly collecting data along Vanduul-border sectors, Pyro fringe routes, and uncharted asteroid belts. They didn’t make headlines. They weren’t part of any major operation. But when UEE forces pushed into dangerous territory, they did so with Bernardelli nav data loaded in their flight computers.

The crew was small. The mission was clear. Watch. Report. Survive.

Collapse of the Outer Posts (2930s–2940s)
As Vanduul incursions increased in frequency—and brutality—the UEE began pulling back. Outposts once supported by Navy patrols were left exposed. Colonial militias started getting picked off. The systems between Tiber and Caliban became unpredictable.

Bernardelli Recon did what they always had: watched, tracked, and warned. But by 2945, it was clear that no one was listening anymore.

Elias Bernardelli, by then retired and living quietly on Cassel, died the same year the Battle of Vega II tore through the ‘verse. His recon group—once treated with quiet respect—was all but forgotten in the panic that followed.

The company was left in the hands of his grandson, Riggs Bernardelli Murtaugh, a former UEE Navy Recon Operator with field command experience and scars from Pyro and Kellog alike.

Pivot to Protection (2946–2949)
Riggs had spent his career in the black, pulling bodies out of drifting hulls and dragging intel back from places UEE brass pretended didn’t exist. When he took control of Bernardelli, he didn’t want to watch anymore.

The time for observation was over.

He restructured the organization in 2947, converting Bernardelli from a passive recon group into a lean, deployable private military company, capable of:

Escort and protection

High-risk recon with teeth

Extraction and evacuation

Settlement defense

Threat containment

What used to be a handful of scouts became fireteam-trained operators. Quiet mapping missions became aggressive forward surveillance with contingency rules. Bernardelli wasn’t just reporting on threats anymore—they were neutralizing them.

Modern Era: Eyes Sharp, Guns Ready
By 2950, Bernardelli Recon & Naval Mission Management had re-emerged as a small, professional PMC with a focused mission: observe, protect, and defend—before the real damage hits.

They operate primarily in Stanton, Nyx, Leir, and border-adjacent systems, taking contracts from colonies, freight orgs, trade consortia, and outposts left behind by UEE drawdowns.

They don’t advertise.
They don’t operate in the open.
They take the jobs that matter—and they don’t fail.

Today, the Bernardelli name doesn’t show up in Senate briefings or corporate brochures. It shows up in settlements that are still standing, ships that made it home, and squad members who know they’re not being left behind.

“We’re not the cavalry. We’re the crew that gets there before the screaming starts.”

Manifesto

Who We Are:

We are a privately operated military force composed of former UEE personnel, frontier defense experts, and tactical veterans. We specialize in reconnaissance, rapid-response, security, and naval engagement. We don’t wave flags. We don’t chase bounties for fame. We take contracts, complete them with precision, and move on.

We are not mercenaries. We are mission managers. That means intel, strategy, execution, and accountability.

When the UEE won’t get involved…
When the pirates push too far…
When you need a ship that won’t back down—

You call Bernardelli.

What We Stand For:

1. Contract Before Chaos
We don’t freelance. We don’t freelance. We follow the mission profile, hold the perimeter, and finish clean. No ego. No mission creep.

2. Loyalty Is Earned
Your uniform doesn’t make you one of us—your conduct does. Everyone in this company is held to the same standard, from rookies to veterans. We protect our own, and we never abandon a deployed team.

3. Fire With Purpose
We are not a blunt instrument. Every action must serve the mission, protect the crew, and align with the client’s scope. Recklessness has no place in Bernardelli.

4. Presence Is Power
We fly the Polaris not for intimidation—but as a promise. When our ship arrives, the mission is in capable hands. Our presence is the warning. Our silence is the threat.

5. Victory With Discipline
We don’t celebrate casualties. We don’t chase chaos. We accomplish objectives, eliminate threats, extract survivors, and leave the system quieter than we found it.

Why We Exist:

The UEE spreads thin. The frontier breaks. Settlements fall, cargo disappears, and the ‘verse turns a blind eye. You can’t rely on politics to keep you safe. That’s where we come in.

Bernardelli Recon & Naval Mission Management isn’t here to fight wars. We’re here to stop them before they start—or clean them up when no one else will.

We operate clean, fast, and with zero drama.

We’re not pirates.
We’re not vigilantes.
We’re not a militia.

We are BERNMM—and we take the shot so you don’t have to.

Security Escort & Convoy Protection

High-Value Extraction & Personnel Recovery

We exist to fill the void where the UEE can’t—or won’t—act. Our clients range from settlements and syndicates to corporate interests and law-aligned factions. If the contract is clear and the price is fair, we deploy.

II. Core Principles
1. Mission Before Ego
Our goal is the clean execution of objectives—not fame, loot, or personal vendettas. Every shot fired and every order given must serve the mission.

2. Discipline Is Non-Negotiable
We operate under strict internal protocols. Command is followed. Orders are clear. Freelancing and “cowboy ops” are not tolerated.

3. Loyalty Is Earned Daily
Whether you fly a dropship or command the Polaris, your place here is earned through performance, conduct, and crew accountability—not seniority or status.

4. Neutral, Not Passive
We are not aligned with UEE politics or syndicate games. We serve the contract, not the banner. But when innocent lives are at risk or a crew member is in danger, we act with precision and force.

5. Reputation Over Riches
We do not betray clients. We do not abandon missions. We do not cross into piracy. Our name is our asset—and everyone carries the burden of protecting it.
