“The Black Hole Son’s aren’t just workers, they’re born of the void, forged in unity, and driven by purpose. When the stars go dark and gravity pulls hard, they don’t flinch. They deliver. Every time. No flag. No fear. Just the job.” – Commander Elira Voss, UEE Ret., Frontier Systems Liaison, 2955
Organization History: Black Hole Son’s
“We don’t serve empires. We serve the work.”
Origins in the Fringe
The Black Hole Son’s began as a group of independent contractors; miners, haulers, engineers, and security personnel abandoned by their corporate sponsors during a failed deep-space mining initiative near the Caliban system. Stranded near an unknown gravitational anomaly and left to die after a rescue operation was deemed “excessively expensive and risky to equipment and people” by the controlling corporate board, they survived by salvaging their own wreckage, pooling experience, knowledge and skills, and forging a pact: never again would they be at the mercy of distant boardrooms or indifferent governments.
They named themselves after the singularity that nearly consumed them—Black Hole Son’s—a reminder that even in the void, unity is power.
The Union Model
Rather than a traditional hierarchy, the Black Hole Son’s operate as a syndicalist labor union.
While there will be the occasional “Org sponsored event”, each ship’s captain is free to take any and all work they would like (legal work as BHSN is not a piracy organization) and may use the organization’s human resources (other captains) as the source of labor needed to complete a given contract. Fees for the contract work are to be worked out between the hiring captain and those who will be performing the job(s)
“They are not pirates, nor beholden to any government. They are professionals who get the job done—on their terms.”
Present-Day Operations:
Today, the Black Hole Son’s operate from modular stations and mobile platforms across fringe systems.
They’re known for their neutrality, reliability, and refusal to break contract—even under fire. Corporations hire them when discretion matters. Colonies call them when no one else will come. And when war breaks out, they don’t pick sides—they pick terms.
Manifesto of the Black Hole Son’s
“In the void, we build. In the chaos, we endure. In unity, we thrive.”
I. Purpose and Identity
We are the Black Hole Son’s — a sovereign labor union forged in the crucible of abandonment and betrayal. We are miners, haulers, salvagers, scientists, and tacticians. We are not pirates. We are not soldiers. We are workers who have learned to fight when necessary, explore when possible, and build always.
“We do not serve empires. We serve the work.”
II. Motives
Our motives are simple and unshakable:
• Autonomy: To operate free from corporate exploitation and political manipulation.
• Solidarity: To protect and uplift every member, regardless of role or rank.
• Resilience: To thrive in the harshest environments — gravitational anomalies, lawless systems, and bureaucratic voids.
• Legacy: To leave behind more than we found — in knowledge, infrastructure, and myth.
III. Intentions
We intend to:
• Negotiate contracts on our terms, ensuring fair compensation and operational transparency.
• Expand our capabilities across mining, salvage, logistics, exploration, and tactical support.
• Maintain neutrality in political conflicts, unless our members or principles are threatened.
• Document and share discoveries, contributing to the collective knowledge of the frontier.
• Train the next generation, passing down skills, stories, and the Event Horizon Doctrine.
Our six core domains:
• Resource Extraction & Refining: Asteroid mining, planetary surface mining, quantum material harvesting and their refinement.
• Salvage, Recovery: Derelict reclamation, wreck retrieval, and deep-space cleanup.
• Repair, Refuel & Refit: Ship repair, refueling and refitting operations.
• Logistics & Livery: Secure transport of high-value or high-risk freight or passengers.
• Scientific, Exploratory, & Medical Missions: Charting jump points, anomaly research, xenoarchaeology, and medical.
• Security & Tactical Support: Defensive operations, convoy protection, and strategic intervention.
IV. Views on the Universe
We view the universe not as a battlefield, but as a workplace — dangerous, vast, and full of opportunity. We reject the binary of law and lawlessness. We believe in functional ethics: do the job, protect your crew, honor your word.
We see governments as temporary. Corporations as fickle. But the guild? The guild endures.
We believe:
• Gravity is truth — it reveals character under pressure.
• Work is sacred — whether hauling ore or navigating jump points.
• Unity is strength — not through obedience, but through shared purpose.
V. Final Declaration
We are the Black Hole Son’s.
We do not beg for contracts.
We do the work — and we do it better than anyone.
Charter of the Black Hole Son’s
“Bound not by borders, but by brotherhood.”
Article I: Purpose
The Black Hole Son’s exist to uphold the dignity, safety, and sovereignty of independent workers across the galaxy. We are a labor union committed to fair contracts, mutual respect, and operational excellence in mining, salvage, logistics, science, and tactical support.
Article II: Core Principles
All members shall uphold the following principles:
• Respect: Treat all members with dignity, regardless of rank, role, or origin. Discrimination, harassment, or abuse will not be tolerated.
• Brotherhood: Stand by your fellow Son in times of crisis. Aid, protect, and uplift one another.
• Fairness: Ensure equitable pay for work performed. No member shall be exploited, underpaid, or denied their rightful share.
• Integrity: Honor contracts, respect client confidentiality, and never compromise the guild’s reputation for personal gain.
• Justice: Fight for what is right — defend the vulnerable, challenge corruption, and refuse contracts that violate our ethical code.
• Lawfulness: Operate within the bounds of local and interstellar law unless those laws directly threaten our autonomy or safety. We are not criminals; we are professionals.
Article III: Membership Conduct
• Voting Rights: Every member has a voice in guild decisions. Major contracts, leadership appointments, and disciplinary actions require democratic vote.
• Conflict Resolution: Disputes between members shall be resolved through mediation by the guild council. Violence between members is grounds for expulsion.
• Contractual Discipline: Members must fulfill accepted contracts unless incapacitated. Abandonment or sabotage of missions is a breach of charter.
• Transparency: All earnings, expenses, and resource allocations shall be logged and accessible to members.
Article IV: The Event Horizon Doctrine
Every member shall undergo The Descent — a rite of passage symbolizing resilience, independence, and trust in the guild. This trial affirms that:
“In the gravity well of chaos, only unity holds orbit.”
Article V: Amendments and Evolution
This charter is a living document and may be amended. As the universe changes, so too must our code — but never our core.
