Official Spectrum channel of Blind Jump Enterprises. An engine of progress exploring the stars. Interested parties inquire within. New worlds await.
In 2929 eccentric genius Carlos Ming Aberforth Eboh-Sendai made a fortune in crypto-currency speculation. In an event that would come to be known as the Femtosecond Flip, Carlos went from being an unemployed polymath University student, to being one of the richest men in the UEE.
Over the next decade, he bought, built, or absorbed a chain of companies involved in space travel. Compass Navigational, Qui Quantum Drives Inc., Broadjump Jump Systems and Sterling Stellar Scanners. He amalgamated the best from these companies and others to build a small scale corporate empire. Carlos’ goal was to revolutionize space travel.
“What Nick Croshaw did for our future among the stars was immeasurable. But we can’t stand still. I want to keep us moving. Onward and Outward.”
Carlos bargained with the Banu, negotiated with the Xi’an and cut backroom deals with the UEE military to further his goals. And he delivered. A ten percent more efficient Q Drive, extended range Jump Engines, and a still unmatched suite of scanning sensors used by the UEE for Project Deep Eyes. The Eboh-Sendai conglomerate was moving full speed ahead when the Vanduul war began in earnest in 2945.
The UEE claimed eminent domain over most of Carlos’ research to bolster the war effort. It was something Carlos was happy to do, so long as he was still allowed control and oversight. But the Imperator saw things differently. Carlos was left as little more than a propaganda figure, courting investors to support technology pushes for the war.
With most of his corporate assets tied up by the UEE, Carlos disappeared from the spotlight and put his personal fortune into play. He had, as a pet project, theorized a new kind of Jump Engine. Something his inner circle knew of as the Deep Dive Drive. At a clandestine shipyard above Charon V, Carlos constructed the last spacecraft he would ever design.
Few notes of the craft’s design have escaped into the public, and only one image of the sleek white craft exists, with Carlos standing proudly beside it. The XTL-1 ‘Blind Jump’ was a small three man craft that Carlos intended to take from Charon to Genesis, along a previously undiscovered ‘micro jump point’. Before he left, Carlos put in place a massive economic chain of events to trigger in the event of his death.
He delivered an inspiring speech to a select view executives and researchers. A speech that still echoes in his wake.
“The Xi’an have centuries of lifetimes to further their people and yet they hold on to their way of life with fierce determination. The Banu have an unprecedented knack for integrating the technology of all species into a cohesive whole and yet use it only to further their profits. The Vanduul… The Vanduul could spread to the stars like an engine of progress, and yet they turn only to war.”
“So we must stand up when others stand aside. While others cling to their ways, we humans, where ever we are, must point up into the night sky and say our new home lies there. It’s up to us to claim the birthright of all sentient beings. It’s up to us to inherit the stars. We must keep moving forward. Exploring, settling, learning, and claiming new worlds as our own. This war with the Vanduul will pass. The cold peace with the Xi’an will one day become a deep friendship. And it shall be up to us to lead them all… to the stars.”
With that he and his small crew boarded the Blind Jump and vanished into an uncharted Jump Point that has still not been found even years later. What fate befell Carlos Eboh-Sendai, his ship and his crew? We may never know. But we do know his legacy. The ‘engine of progress’ he put in place went into motion after he was gone.
The loose conglomerate of corporations he had collected we’re liquidated and reformed under a single banner as Blind Jump Enterprises. Its edict was to follow in the jump wake of its founder…The exploration and exploitation of the whole of the unknown universe. Maxine “Max Q” Qui, former CEO of Qui Quantum Drives, was placed at the helm. Her expertise both as a powerful executive and former UEE scout ship engineer made her perfect for the job.
She has since personally recruited a collection of researchers, explorers, and engineers to lead the company, many of whom served along side her in the legendary Squadron 42. Blind Jump Enterprises, while not the largest or most prestigious exploration outfit, stays ahead of the game by operating at the edges of space and skirting the limits of UEE laws. Each project group is given full autonomy to pursue their own goals, so long as they align with those of the company.
And every one of them hopes, some more openly than others, that one day Carlos Eboh-Sendai will be found. Still flying his Blind Jump, still pointed at the stars, flying onward and outward.
Our Board of Directors will unveil our official corporate statements soon. Please come back for updated information.
