Black Sun Mining Consortium:
Many years ago, there was an Industrial Corporation named Rising Star Industries. They had discovered an untouched system rich with new and exotic minerals. There were entire asteroid belts brimming with glittery geodes, and ultra-strong metals. Entire planets covered in human-safe water with atmospheres of the purest oxygen and no sentient life. It was a paradise system, and they had exclusive access to all of it.
Extraction operations began immediately, the board siezing the opportunity to cash in on the near-limitless bounty of raw resources, began construction of numerous orbital storage stations deisgned to house immense amounts of materials for export. The company recruited heavily, drawing from the low-income populace of other nearby systems, enticing people with the promise of wealth and fame. Secrecy was key, and the company jealously guarded the location of the gate they’d discovered, locking their employees behind NDAs and security measures. Rising Star brought their new workforce through the wormhole into the new system they’d named “Trinitus” and used them to build the stations, refineries, and ships that would be required to handle the vast resources being harvested daily.
Rising Star began stockpiling all of the resources, afraid that trickling out new and exotic materials would raise questions and eventually lead to a discovery of the Trinitus system. The Rising Star CEO’s plan was to move out their gathered materials in massive chunks for storage and eventual distribution. He set up a series of money-laundering schemes to pay for the extreme drain on Rising Star’s corporate funds, dabbling in pirate smuggling operations and credential-forgery to cover the rising operational costs in Trinitus. His strategies might have worked out if he hadn’t become targeted by the pirate gang “Deathgrip” who’d lost business and a significant amount of credits due to the CEO’s activities. They blew up his personal transport as he was leaving his executive office enroute to Trinitus, after sabotaging his regeneration imprint ensuring his permanent demise. With no outside source of income large enough to sustain the operation in Trinitus, Rising Star cut costs at all levels and tried to begin the process of moving out the ultra-valuable materials they’d been collecting.
Trouble began for Rising Star when their newly-minted workforce realized that the company was almost broke, having over-invested in their harvesting operations and leaving almost nothing for the rest of their outside operations. Compounding this issue was the lack of proper facilities to house and care for the workforce, many dying from old-world diseases and minor injuries due to the lack of care. A growing resentment for the deplorable working and living conditions gave way to a splitting of the workforce, numerous factions emerged, each claiming to serve the people, and each of them an enemy to the other. Many of the top-tier executives were killed in acts of terrorism and targeted assassinations, leading to a crumbling of company leadership. Shipping routes broke down and the planets became isolated from eachother as the factions planned and plotted ways to gain control of the system.
One of the factions, Civil Liberation Front, captured a mining barge full of mining charges. They packed the stolen ship with an unstable mineral, Dipthomite, which was known to be highly-explosive and flew it to the system’s only gate. They threatened to detonate the gate if their sovereignty over the system wasn’t recognized. During the chaos, a single family was able to flee through the gate in a tiny shuttle which also happened to be the last time a ship would make that jump. Upon seeing the shuttle escape the system, the Civil Liberation Front, thinking that the shuttle had the last of the Rising Star executives on board, detonated the barge. Special properties of the Dipthomite explosion caused the Gate to destabilize and collapse, forever isolating the system’s residents and condemning them to their fate.
The shuttle ended up being found by a Deep Space exploration ship who brought the family of three back into UEE-controlled space. The mother and father died shortly after being recovered due to prolonged exposure to a type of cosmic radiation that physicians hadn’t seen before. Istvaan Tycho was the sole survivor of the Trinitus system disaster, having escaped his parent’s fate due to intervention by the doctors that couldn’t save his parents. UEE officials initiated a probe into the Rising Star Industries incident, the results of which have bever been published.
Istvaan went on to study business and started his company governed by the principle “People First”. He has grown his company into a multi-faceted industrial powerhouse known for producing exceptional quality products and providing unique solutions for his customer’s issues. The recently-opened security arm is dedicated to the protection of civilian industrial operations and often provides the service free of charge in an effort to disincentivize the exploitation of smaller operations by pirates and other malcontents. The name “Black Sun” is Istvaan’s inverse-homage to Rising Star Industries gross mishandling of their people and the lost paradise system Trinitus.
