We explore to freelance, freelance to explore. And exploit in-between.

For millennia, we have looked up at the stars and wondered at the secrets they hold.

We intend to find out.

Even if it means we have to take every odd ball job along the way to fund it.

History

Caelus Onyx was started by two brothers who’s father found a crashed alien space ship. The brothers used items salvaged from that wreck to fund their first spaceship, a Carrack, to continue searching the stars for new wonders. During their first voyage, they befriended others that held similar ideals and goals and founded Caelus Onyx (latin for heaven, or space’s black color) as a way to incorporate all of the crew into an agreement, but more importantly to put words to the values that they all held dear.

Manifesto

It is important to note that we are a role playing organization, though it’s probably better to think of it as Role-Play-Lite ™ and not super hardcore. What does that mean? It means we’re going to strongly encourage everyone to fit all coms into the lore. We believe it will help with immersion, and make for a generally better game play experience. Need to take a break? Say you need to take a nap. We’ll all catch on. But we’re not going to punish anyone for not “staying in character” or slipping up every now and then. Nor will make you start as a newbie or change your name if your character gets perma-death. You can if you want to, but we won’t require it. Ok, back to more in game writing.

We believe that the stars hold mystery. Unfathomable treasures, untold stories, unseen secrets, unexpected encounters, unmet creatures, unnerving wrecks, unsuitable environments, unknown paths, and unanswered questions. And yet, here we are. Living in a time where we can know the unknowable. We can find the truths that our ancestors could only dream about. That’s what drives us. That’s why we reach for the stars.

This is the underlying truth that drives Caelus Onyx. All of the odd jobs, the cargo, the ships, the outlying systems, the pirates, and whatever other work we can find go towards finding the unknown. The jump points, the derelict ships, the abandoned (or not so abandoned) planets, the mysteries. The other reason we’ve formed is one of practicality. No one can fly an Orion, Starfarer, Caterpillar, Redeemer, Hull E, and an Idris all at the same time. But it’s certainly helpful to be able to get one of them when you need one. We aim to be self sufficient, and have a wide variety of ships to offer to our members. A share of the profits will always go back to better equip ourselves. We want to buy armor, weapons, and other items to give to our members. We want to purchase ships for our fleet that will be available to us all. We want to pay insurance, and provide seed money for cargo runs and other expeditions.

Freelancing our way to the mysteries hidden in the blackness between the stars means we need a variety of people. We need pilots, co-pilots, captains, engineers, haulers, gunners, scanner and shield ops, and guards. We’ll fight, we’ll mine, we’ll haul, we’ll find, we’ll hide, we’ll trick, we’ll barter, and we’ll scan our way to exploring and knowing these secret truths. If you desire the same, please join us.

Charter

Caelus Onyx Charter and Agreement

We the undersigned hereby agree to form a simple corporation, Caelus Onyx Exploration LLC., for the mutual benefit to it’s shareholders (members) and the organization itself. Grounds for expulsion from the company are, but not limited to:
  1. Piracy
  2. Slave Trading
  3. Embezzlement
  4. Mutiny

Caelus intends to provide opportunities for it’s members by providing them with resources. Armor, weapons, ships, and information are some of the tangible things that Caelus will provide to it’s members. In return for resourcing it’s members it will partake in a share of the profits, which it will use to better resource it’s members, enabling them to explore with more resources. Additional information about profits will be found in a later section.

Expedition Formation

Members will have the opportunity to form or join expeditions. An expedition will be defined as any job or mission that has the potential to produce profit. The highest ranking member is designated as the leader unless they elect to abdicate the role. No member will ever be forced to participate in an expedition, however once they agree to join, they may not leave in a way that sabotages it either. Members can leave with clearance with the of the expedition leader.

Membership

Upon admittance to the Caelus Onyx LLC., persons will be granted membership. This will ensure them a portion of the profits if they remain active. To remain active, members will need to participate in at least one expedition every month. Members can also initiate their own expeditions with Caelus resources. An example of an expedition could be a Cargo run (with or without multiple stops) or an amount of time or area conducting deep space scanning. Expeditions should have a clear scope (an ending) before gathering members and starting out.

Roles

Many roles will be available and equally important for expedition success. Roles include, but are not limited to:
  1. Expedition Leader
  2. Scan Operator
  3. Pilot/Co-Pilot
  4. Escort Ship Pilot
  5. Shield Operator
  6. Engineer
  7. Boarding Specialist/Security
  8. Gunner
  9. Cargo Pilot
  10. Mining Specialist
  11. Fuel Collection
  12. Fleet Repair and Maintenance

Division of Generated Profits

All profits will be split fairly adhering to the following model. Profits will be determined to be any credits earned on an expedition after subtracting any costs (fuel, missiles, cargo, ect). For any expedition, Caelus will receive one share, and the ship owner will receive one extra share. In the event that Caelus is the owner of the ship, it’s combined shares shall not to exceed 50% of the profits. All other members active in the expedition will be awarded one share. Members are free to spend their profits as they see fit. Caelus shares will be deposited into the company accounts and will go toward basic expenditures, and general improvements. Expeditions that produce substantial profits (found jump points, ect) resulting in profits over 20,000,000 UEC will be distributed to all active members of Caelus Onyx and extra shares to members that were active on the expedition.

Example 1: A member uses a Caelus Freelancer to run some cargo. After purchasing the cargo and selling it, they are left with a net profit of 10,000 credits. Normally Caelus would receive two credits, but because it surpasses the 50% threshold, the member deposits 5,000 credits into the company account, and keeps the remain 5,000 credits for themselves.

Example 2: Two members use a Caelus Hull B to run some cargo. After purchasing the cargo and selling it, they are left with a net profit of 20,000 UEC. Caelus receives two credits, and the two members receive one share each, for a total of four shares. Each member receives 5,000 UEC, and Caelus receives 10,000 UEC.

Example 3: 5 members decide to take a job stopping local pirates in a Caterpillar for 20,000 UEC. After a successful boarding they also manage to capture the ship. After it’s sold for 120,000 UEC the net profit is split 7 ways Caelus and all members receive a share of 20,000UEC with the extra share going to the owner of the boarding ship.

Example 4: Eight members discover a ship wreck. Value weapons are able to be scavenged, and after the scrap is collected a profit of 800,000 UEC is made. Each member receives 80,000 UEC

Example 5: A new jump point is discovered by ten members. There are currently 38 active members in the company. The information on the jump point is sold for 50 million UEC. The members that make the discovery receive 2 million UEC while everyone else receives 1 million UEC.
