The French Line, was a French shipping company. Established in 1855 by the brothers Émile and Issac Péreire under the name Compagnie Générale Maritime, the company was entrusted by the French government to transport mails to North America. In 1861, the name of the company was changed to Compagnie Générale Transatlantique. The company’s first vessel, the SS Washington, had its maiden voyage on 15 June 1864. After a period of trials and errors in the late 19th century, the company, under the direction of its presidents Jules Charles-Roux and John Dal Piaz, gained fame in the 1910s and 1930s with its prestigious ocean liners such as SS Paris, SS Île de France, and especially SS Normandie. Fragilized by the Second World War, the company regained its fame in 1962 with the famous SS France, which suffered major competition from air transport and was retired from service in 1974. In 1977, the company merged with the Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes to form the Compagnie Générale Maritime. Today, with the exploitation rights no longer in use and the archives of former countries that may have existed on Earth being obsolete, Cyrus Industries Corporation has decided to re-establish the French Line with the ultimate goal of restoring the glory of French service on board its transport ships.
All baggage is required to be labelled with the owner’s name, cabin number, ship name and date of departure, so it can be picked up by our staff at the terminal and taken to your cabin after departure. Your baggage will be delivered to you as soon as possible after you board the ship. Items that you may need immediately after boarding, such as medication, should be packed in your hand baggage. French Line’s responsibility for loss and damage to baggage is limited to the clauses indicated on the ship’s ticket. French Line cannot be held responsible for damage to photographic equipment, jewellery, cash, fragile objects and/or valuables contained in the baggage. These precious and/or fragile objects as well as any medication must be in hand baggage carried by the passenger. The beds are high enough to slide your suitcases underneath. However, if your luggage is too bulky, your cabin steward can take it to store it elsewhere.
The medical facilities on board our ships are equipped to provide medical care to the injured and sick passengers. These facilities are not intended to provide treatment for any illness existing at the time of embarkation.
The French Line makes every effort to welcome passengers with disabilities on board. Any person requiring special services, assistance, facilities or an adapted cabin must inform French Line’s reservation department at the time of check-in.
For your comfort and safety, we ask you to be accompanied by a suitable person to carry your wheelchair.
The official language on board French Line ships is French. Announcements are intentionally limited. An English-speaking hostess is on board to provide assistance to our passengers.
During the day, dress is casual. Swimsuits and shorts are only accepted around the pools, sports deck and fitness centres.
In the evening, to respect the company’s traditional spirit of elegance, it is recommended to follow the dress code indicated on the ship’s programme.
