History
Condottieri were the leaders (or warlords) of the professional, military free companies (or mercenaries) contracted by the Italian city-states and the Papacy, from the late Middle Ages and throughout the Renaissance. In Renaissance Italian, condottiero meant “contractor”, and was synonymous with the modern English title Mercenary Captain. In contemporary Italian, “condottiero” acquired the broader meaning of “military leader”, not restricted to mercenaries. In Italian historiography, Renaissance mercenary captains are usually called capitani di ventura (literally “venture captains”).
These Italian words were standard usage in English writing of the Napoleonic times that remained current in written histories until the late 20th century; because formally employed, standing, professional armies were uncommon until late in the Napoleonic Wars (1800–1815) thus, the word Condottiere in the English language has come to denote, in the modern sense, any hired soldier.
In 2805 a group of experienced mercenaries were given an ancient scripture as payment for a previous job. While reluctant to take this method of payment the mercenaries were assured that it would be worth the perils they had faced. After their client had departed, the band of mercenaries revealed the contents of the ancient scripture. Inside were secrets of “The Ark” that were hidden from public view. One of these secrets involved a long lost treasure accumulated by the Condottieri during the peak of their military strength. The mercenaries quickly gathered their force and made their way to Earth to face the unknown.
Upon reaching the ancient scriptures’ coordinates the mercenaries were awestruck at their findings. Deep beneath the abandoned streets of the City of Venice lay an immense vault of old treasures and artifacts of the Condotteiri. Though thrilled with the treasure they had found, the mercenaries respected the efforts of those who had contructed the monuments, the vault and the historical importance surrounding them. The mercenaries studied documents of the rise and fall of these historical figures. Inspired and determined to succeed their marveled mercenary brethren, they donned the title and the ways of the Condotteiri, vowing to uphold and ascend that which led to the decline of the original.
The Condotteiri now hold influence over several factions, ranging from Crime Syndicates to as far as inside the UEE and it’s affiliates. Though you may not ever see these mercenaries, rest assured, they are always watching you.
Manifesto
Introduction
The Condotteiri is a well organized group of mercenaries that create contracts for any and all types of Organizations, Cooperation’s, Syndicates, Governments or any other association interested in particular missions no one else will take. These missions range from simple escort missions to Covert Operations and “inside jobs” required from other previously mentioned groups.
Ranks
Initiate: A newcomer to the Condotteiri. The initiate will be given contracts to fulfill while being evaluated for interaction between players, professionalism in accepting and completing contracts with clients, honesty with handling credits accumulated from contracts, etc. After completing ten (10) or more contracts for either the Condotteiri or clients, the initiate will be rewarded with a standard 300i ship (if not already owned) and the title of “Member”.
Member: Members have proven themselves in the eyes of the Condotteiri and will still be given contracts, however with a higher difficulty. It is a members choice when and if he/she wants to take on a contract. Members are not obligated to take on contracts, but are required to should they want to move up in rank.
Contractor: Contractors are the veterans of the Condotteiri. They have taken on multiple contracts and show a willingness to see the Condotteiri grow. Contractors are now able to take on higher difficulty contracts and have access to resources provided by the Condotteiri to assist them in completing contracts.
Specialist: The Specialist title is reserved for those who have taken on contracts of every difficulty and emerged unscathed. Specialists are allowed to make their own contracts with clients. Upon achieving the rank of Specialist the player will be rewarded with a standard Hornet fighter (if not already owned) and given access to special contracts that are unavailable to regular contractors and below.
Covert Ops: This Rank deals with Covert Operations, reconnaissance, sabotage, infiltration and much more. This rank requires the best aspects from all previous ranks. You will not be able to make your own contracts with clients from this point on. Although you will be paid much more for the work you are successful with. All information you receive from the Condotteiri is classified, as are your contracts. You will not be seen, nor heard unless you choose to be. Failure is not an option.
Special Ops: The Special Operations Rank is awarded to those that have fulfilled all other ranks flawlessly. Your devotion to the Condotteiri is rivaled by only your Special Ops brethren. Much like the Cover Ops rank, you will be tasked with the most difficult assignments and information is classified. This description will remain short, however you will learn more once reaching this new Rank. The best of luck.
