The Illustrious Histories of the East Empire Trading Company

He used his earnings to establish an organization, hiring those men known for being insane, to join him on his voyages. It was a small business that grew slowly, however in during the Second Tevarin War, the need for certain materials and weapons to be taken across incredibly dangerous space was high. The company grew quickly and even branched out, providing security as well as trade. After the war had ended the company was well established and well known, many people from one side of the UEE to the other sought business with them. Alas, as time passed and the man who had made his dream come true had aged and he grew sick, passing down the company to his eldest son and instructed him to keep the company alive and well within the family. The man, now known historically across the UEE as Bran the Trader, passed away a week later. Bran’s trade missions to the frontlines made him famous, no other group of traders would dare transport anything that close to fighting territory, the military soon had Bran and his company transporting critical documents back and forth to high command back on Earth. He was essential to the success of the War and was awarded the highest honours by the Emperor himself.

For a time after Bran’s death, the company continued to prosper, in times of peace, providing quality service to the highest echelons of the universe. But as time progressed as it is bound to do, the company continued to be passed down within the family of the Trader, until it wasn’t. Bran’s direct line ended abruptly when his great-grandson was killed by his own men! Those very same men attempted to seize control of the company. They leeched it dry and put nothing back, living as lavishly and comfortably as they liked, and the company collapsed. Many other corporations rose up and preyed on the company’s monopoly over trade within the UEE, stealing its customers and forcing away its suppliers, without the proper leadership, without the proper vision, the company was quickly dying.

Time moved on, many years passed, and although the company was nonexistent, the right to the company, was still passed down in name. A man, the true descendant of the Trader, sat in a bar on Terra. In his hands he held an envelope with writing and a yellow and black emblem stamped on the front. He sighed heavily as he realized the true beauty of what had been lost, the dream of his ancestor dead in his hands. A spark flared in his mind for an instant, the burning hope to rekindle the idea and make it a reality once more. However it was put out by the realization that he had no one to help him. No people to support him.

There was the sharp ring of the bell as the door opened and in walked three men, laughing with each other amicably and clear friendliness. One had the look of a warrior about him, ruthless and scarred; the second was clearly well off with the fine silks that litter the New York markets on Earth, and the last was wrapped in enough thick clothes that it was easy to tell he was from a frigid tundra planet on the outer edges of UEE space. How they came to know each other originally is irrelevant, it is what happens next that is important. The three men sat down together next to the previously distraught man. They didn’t know each other, but there was a drawing force between them that could not be seen, as if it was fate itself that had brought them there. They soon introduced themselves and after talking for a time, the descendant of the Trader told them the story of his ancestor. It was in that place, and at that moment, drinks in their hands and dreams of money in their heads that the four men decided to revive the original East Empire Trading Company.

They swore at that moment to put an end to the rip offs that had arose and stolen its once great name. They swore that those who styled themselves after the original would soon learn that it would take a true descendant of the Trader and three very insane men to successfully run the largest trading company the UEE had ever seen. The descendant was a man of history and loved to quote the famous men that made humanity great, it was said that on that night he quoted Winston Churchill by claiming “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it!”
