The History of Phoenix Rising
Origins
Interstellar Freelance and Trade (IFT): A loose coalition of smugglers, traders, and mercenaries who operated on the fringes of lawful commerce. They prided themselves on independence, navigating the star lanes with cunning deals and fast ships. Their motto: “Profit above allegiance.”
The Dodgy Pirates: A notorious band of raiders infamous for their chaotic tactics and unpredictable loyalty. They thrived on fear, ambushes, and deception. Their reputation was one of danger and dishonor, but their daring raids made them legends in the outer systems.
The Merger
As galactic trade routes tightened under corporate and imperial control, both groups faced extinction.
IFT needed muscle to protect their smuggling operations. The Dodgy Pirates needed stability and resources to survive.
In a tense summit aboard the derelict warship Ashen Talon, leaders from both sides struck a pact: merge their strengths under a new banner.
Birth of Phoenix Rising
The name Phoenix Rising symbolized rebirth from the ashes of their fractured past.
Their emblem: a burning bird clutching both a trade coin and a cutlass, representing the union of commerce and piracy.
They adopted a hybrid strategy: part mercantile guild, part raiding fleet. Deals were struck with shadow markets, while rival convoys were plundered without mercy.
Legacy
Phoenix Rising became infamous for their dual nature:
Traders by day, raiders by night.
They could negotiate a contract with one hand and slit a throat with the other.
Their rise reshaped the balance of power in the outer rim, forcing empires and corporations to reckon with a force that was neither fully pirate nor merchant.
Legends say their flagship, The Emberwing, could vanish into hyperspace flames, leaving only scorched wreckage behind.

Charter
Preamble
We, the formerly independent elements of Interstellar Freelance and Trade and the Dodgy Pirates, facing mutual extinction under the tightening grip of corporate and imperial controls, hereby unite our strengths. Aboard the derelict warship Ashen Talon, we forge a new banner, symbolizing our rebirth from the ashes of our fractured past. We adopt this charter to ensure stability, prosperity, and dominance in the outer rim, embracing our dual nature as both merchants and marauders.
Article I: Name and Emblem
Section 1.01 Name: The organization shall be known as Phoenix Rising.
Section 1.02 Emblem: The emblem shall be a burning bird (the Phoenix), clutching a trade coin in one talon and a cutlass in the other, representing the indissoluble union of commerce and piracy.
Article II: Motto and Creed
Section 2.01 Organizational Motto: “Profit above allegiance.”
Section 2.02 Organizational Creed: “From ashes, we rise. From shadows, we strike.”
Article III: Operational Strategy and Purpose
Section 3.01 Hybrid Strategy: Phoenix Rising shall operate using a dual-nature approach: part mercantile guild, part raiding fleet.
Section 3.02 Commerce: Legitimate trade deals shall be struck in shadow markets to secure resources and stability.
Section 3.03 Piracy: Rival convoys and corporate interests shall be plundered without mercy to weaken opposition and generate wealth.
Section 3.04 Independence: The organization shall maintain absolute independence, recognizing no external imperial or corporate authority.
Article IV: Structure and Governance
Section 4.01 Governing Body: Authority shall rest with the Council of Captains.
Section 4.02 Council Composition: The Council of Captains shall be comprised equally of leaders from the trade roots (former IFT) and those from the pirate bloodlines (former Dodgy Pirates).
Section 4.03 Decision Making: All major operational and strategic decisions require the consensus of the Council, ensuring the balance between commerce and raiding is maintained.
Article V: Membership and Rituals
Section 5.01 Recruitment: New members are welcome from any background, provided they demonstrate cunning, skill, and an adherence to the hybrid strategy.
Section 5.02 Initiation Ritual: Every new recruit must undergo the Phoenix Flame Ritual.
a.) The recruit must burn their old insignia, symbolizing the abandonment of past loyalties.
b.) They must swear a solemn oath of loyalty to Phoenix Rising and the Council of Captains.
c.) This ceremony shall take place before the ceremonial fire (the “Phoenix Flame”), which is maintained aboard the flagship, The Emberwing.
Article VI: Assets
Section 6.01 Flagship: The primary command vessel and symbol of the organization is the flagship, The Emberwing.
Section 6.02 Operational Vessels: The fleet shall consist of both fast trade ships for smuggling and heavily armed vessels for raiding.
