“The probability of success is difficult to estimate; but if we never search the chance of success is zero.”

A quote from Giuseppe Cocconi and Philip Morrison’s paper ‘Searching for Interstellar Communications’ that was published in September 1959

History

The History of FEOS is a rather simple one, but still important.

Short summary:
“Faithful Exploration of Space” was founded in early April 2108 as a research division for all Governments. The only purpose of FEOS was to explore the known space and map it.
Furthermore, while growing and shrinking over several decades, FEOS was given the task to scout the unknown parts of space and create a detailed map of everything they see.
This two task are still the main objectives of FEOS even after 800 years of exploration and mapping.
Because there are only these two main objectives most of FEOS members see it more like a religious code to live and explore the whole universe so that one day there will be a map of every little planet with information about it (for example size, material etc.).
Since 2809 every bit of information, which is gathered by FEOS, is stored in the ARK so that every living being is able to look it up.

More detailed history:

2108 – 33 years after the first quantum drive was completed the formerly known NASA announced that they have plans to explore the known universe in a joint venture with the ESA, JAXA, RFSA and the CNSA under the name “Joint Exploring of The Universe”

2132 – While exploring the Saturn moon Titan 4 ships got destroyed . Part of the “Stalin-7” crew, a Russian exploration ship, rebelled against the captain and his staff, a Japanese, 2 Frenchmen and 1 American, which resulted in the ship drifting of course and ramming the Japanese ship (Akusishi-1). The collision of the 2 ships set a chain-reaction in motion killing every one of the 326 explorers. The rebellion was caused by mistrust, which came from a rather tense political situation and prejudices between the russian part of the crew and the non-russian part of the crew.

2133 – After the crash of 4 ships near Saturn the leader of “JES”, Fernando Antúnez, announced a new code of working together. In this code was stated that as soon as entering one of the organisations exploration ships every crewmember had to leave his nationality behind and solely concentrate on achieving the mission goal.
Furthermore the Organisation was renamed to “Faithful Exploration of Space” – short FEOS.

2281 – 10 years after the discovery of the first jump point FEOS now announced that they will start using the jump point to even further explore space. They also said that they will start to search for more jump points if possible.

2530 – With the discovery of the Xi’An Empire and the danger of an interspecies war the FEOS received a call from the UPE to report every movement, which can be seen during exploration missions, of the Xi’An.

2540 – 2640 – During the two wars against the Tevarin the FEOS was again called to report anything they would find during the exploration missions to the UEE. This informations showed that the UEE’s technology was about 150-200 years ahead of the Tevarin technology.

2681 – After the discovery of the Vanduul the FEOS had to upgrade their ships and got some defensive systems on them. Though some ships went missing in that time no one knows if they really got attacked by the Vanduul or flew into a to this point not know jump point.

2796 – After the “Massacre of Garron II” FEOS stopped gathering information on likely war enemies and once again focused on mapping and exploring space.

2800 – With the opening of the ARK FEOS began to transfer all of their gathered information, about systems, their movement and so on, to the ARK

2809 – After finishing the transfer of data FEOS announce that every bit of their information is now open to public and that every new discovery by them will be send to the ARK. The ARK was now the central database of knowledge for FEOS and citizen interested in exploring.

2871 – After nearly a century the UEE again asked the FEOS for help. This time though it was not gathering information on so called enemies. The UEE wanted to know where they could start with the Project which would later be known as the “Synth World Project”. After listing several hundred of possible planets the UEE decided to go with a rock-planet in the “Chronos System”.

2918 – 47 years after the last “encounter” with the UEE FEOS was once again asked to gather information on so called enemies….the Vanduul. Tough FEOS said in 2796 that they won’t gather information for war purposes they could not refuse. After getting attacked by Vanduul ships at nearly every encounter with them they had to somehow make up for the ships and lives lost. From now on war information would only be gathered and then sold if FEOS itself sees the species/organisation as a thread to the UEE or any other friendly governement.

2945 – In the later part of the year 2945 Admiral Bishop held a massive speech in the senate calling for war against the Vanduul.
After this speech FEOS offered to help with the distribution of information to and from the frontlines. This course of action is still highly debated over in FEOS.

Manifesto

“Buried deep within you, beneath all the years of pain and anger, there is something that has never been nurtured: the potential to make yourself a better man. And that is what it is to be human. To make yourself more than you are. Oh, yes — I know you. There was a time you looked at the stars and dreamed of what might be out there.” – Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Charter

Faithful Explorers of Space has only a little set of rules but every member follows this rules as if they were the most important thing to keep them alive.

1. Upon entering one of the Exploration/Scout/mapping ships the member has to leave behind any grief against any other participating species/nation.

2. The live of the crew is unmeasurable. This means that every crewmember has to look out for the rest of the crew so that hopefully no lives shall be lost.

3. Any dispute among the crew has to be solved through a discussion with the whole crew. (No hiding of arguments)

4. Every member of the organisation has joined it because of the free possibility to explore with mates. To keep this up the members do not troll anybody and have most of the time a neutral position to conflicts. (Making a joke is still approved, but not if another person feels offended)

5. FEOS helps whoever is in danger.
Not through conflict but through saving the personnel and bringing them to the nearest save station. (If there should be any exceptions they will be announced)

6. FEOS want everyone to communicate in a proper way. This means no swearing, grieving or similar things.

Members who break this set of rules will be invited to a hearing in which the member can describe what happened and defend himself. The hearing will be carried out by a set of other members with a certain rank inside the organisation. (A new member can join the hearing but won’t get to vote for anything at this place)
At the end of the hearing a vote takes place through which a punishment is decided. A punishment can for example be a formal apology and even banishment from the organisation.
