Long before humanity ventured among the stars, the British Empire established a proud tradition of exploration, trade, diplomacy, and the occasional misunderstanding involving a foreign nation’s sovereignty.
From distant oceans to far-flung colonies, the foundations of our interstellar destiny were laid with wooden ships, iron discipline, and a remarkable willingness to draw borders on maps.
The lesson was clear: if a place existed, it could be explored. If it could be explored, it could be traded with. And if it possessed a sufficiently useful harbour, it was probably worth discussing with the Admiralty.
As humanity expanded into the void, the old imperial spirit was reborn. The discovery of new worlds offered unprecedented opportunities for commerce, diplomacy, and the peaceful dissemination of British administrative practices.
Unfortunately, the galaxy was already occupied by a variety of governments, criminal syndicates, self-appointed warlords, and people who had never even heard of cricket.
The Crown considered this situation regrettable.
The first interstellar expeditions departed under the Union Flag, carrying the finest traditions of British civilisation: naval doctrine, bureaucratic procedure, an unshakeable sense of superiority, and sufficient tea to sustain a prolonged campaign.
In an age of disorder, the galaxy once again required firm and decisive leadership.
The Imperial Standard was raised. The fleets were assembled. The old titles were restored, the ceremonial swords polished, and the relevant committees convened.
At the heart of this renaissance stood Her Immortal Majesty, Empress Queen Elizabeth (not dead), eternal sovereign of the British people and divinely appointed custodian of the human species.
Though lesser powers have questioned the legitimacy of our claims, none have yet presented an argument sufficiently persuasive to overcome an Imperial battle group.
Thus began the Galactic Empire of Great Britain: an organisation dedicated to unity, prosperity, and the benevolent application of overwhelming force.
Today, the GEGB continues its glorious mission throughout the settled systems.
Our captains patrol the void. Our merchants pursue profitable enterprise. Our explorers chart the unknown. Our soldiers defend the Crown’s interests, often in exchange for competitive compensation and a reasonable number of days’ leave.
We welcome all loyal subjects willing to serve the Empire, acquire wealth in its name, or simply point a large ship in the direction of an unfriendly organisation.
The galaxy is vast. Our ambitions are greater.
Her Immortal Majesty, Empress Queen Elizabeth, reigns by right of tradition, destiny, and the collective inability of the Imperial bureaucracy to process a change-of-sovereign form.
Her authority is absolute. Her wisdom is unquestionable. Her tea is never cold.
We recognise no natural limit to British ambition. Every star system represents a potential partner in trade, a future protectorate, or an excellent location for a naval installation.
Lawlessness, piracy, and general un-British behaviour shall not be tolerated. Peace is our objective; overwhelming firepower is our preferred method of achieving it.
We champion commerce, industry, mining, logistics, and the profitable extraction of resources from locations whose previous owners may have failed to appreciate their full economic potential.
A good deal benefits everyone. An excellent deal benefits the Crown.
A flag is merely cloth without a fleet to defend it. We shall maintain a capable, disciplined, and suitably intimidating naval presence throughout Imperial space.
Our ships shall be maintained, our weapons supplied, and our captains reminded that parking a capital ship sideways across a landing pad is not an acceptable expression of naval superiority.
Every citizen has a role in the Imperial project. Fighters, haulers, miners, scouts, engineers, medics, intelligence officers, and administrators all contribute to the glory of the Crown.
Not everyone can command a fleet. Someone must also keep the fuel receipts.
We shall defend our allies, protect Imperial interests, and respond decisively to aggression. However, members are reminded that declaring a blood feud over a minor docking dispute requires authorisation from at least one superior officer.
New worlds shall be explored, outposts established, resources secured, and Imperial influence expanded. We bring civilisation to the frontier, preferably before somebody else discovers the valuable minerals.
Members shall conduct themselves with honour, uphold the reputation of the Empire, and refrain from making promises on behalf of the Crown after their third pint.
The uniform is optional. The attitude is mandatory.
Credits are the ammunition of commerce and the fuel of conquest. Members are encouraged to pursue profitable ventures, support organisational objectives, and avoid purchasing a fleet of expensive ships they cannot afford to maintain.
The Empire rewards initiative. The quartermaster rewards completed paperwork.
Tea is not a beverage. It is a strategic resource, a cultural institution, and a cornerstone of Imperial morale.
Any vessel undertaking a long-range expedition without sufficient tea reserves shall be considered inadequately prepared for service.
We shall stand together through conflict, prosperity, setbacks, and server wipes. We shall build, trade, explore, fight, and occasionally explode in spectacular fashion.
Our enemies may destroy our ships, seize our cargo, or inconvenience our supply lines.
They shall never destroy the Imperial spirit.
FOR CROWN AND COUNTRY.
FOR TRADE AND TERRITORY.
FOR TEA AND VICTORY.
We own the stars by right of tradition.
We keep them by right of firepower.
We administer them by right of paperwork.
LONG LIVE THE EMPRESS.
