A Bar Room Bet

At a popular Terra Prime bar in the year 2908 Phil Magnice was having a drink with some of his friends. All of them were traders and couriers who made delivery runs from one star system to the next transporting goods for corporations and the odd bobble for collectors. That day the conversation had shifted from the usual talks of strange encounters with clients and cheap payouts from corporate executives to a discussion about which routes were quickest for deliveries. Whenever quicker routes were brought up the party was quick to shoot them down with “safety this” and “pirates that.” After an hour of this, Magnice grew tired of the bickering and shouted “I bet you I can fly my next shipment right through the Pyro system without a single scratch on my hull!” Pyro was then as it is now; a haven for pirates and a no-man’s land for anyone carrying anything of worth. The crowd was in shock. Then, amidst the silence, one man stood up “Fifty grand says the loud mouth doesn’t have the balls.” More bets followed. No one believed he would do it.

Collecting Dues

Magnice did make that trip. He made record time on a delivery from Terra to Carteyna in the Cano system and was none the worse for wear by the time he returned. When he informed his colleagues it was time to pay up their mouths were left agape and they wore an incredulous look on their faces. Magnice made a tidy sum that day and word spread that he was the man to go to if you needed something fast and it needed to pass through dangerous territory. A year later, Magnice founded Guardian Mercantile with the promise to his customers that by paying a premium fee for their services they would guarantee that their packages would reach their destination as quick as possible regardless of whatever hazardous territories laid between them and that it would arrive fully intact.

Strike for Independence

In the year 2917 Owen Mac Douglas, a former Captain of the U.E.E. Navy, sees opportunity in the Magnus system for a fresh start. Using the knowledge he gained from his military background he founded Grim Securities, a mercenary firm that provided escorts to companies and private citizens traveling through the dangerous free space of the system. They were among the local security groups to enjoy regular employment from Drake Interplanetary and was regularly hired by Guardian Mercantile.

Crossing Paths

By 2935 Owen’s luck had turned south. His company was running out of money and struggling to maintain its fleet or secure work. He was beginning to bleed employees when Arthur Magnice, the current CEO of Guardian Mercantile, made a proposition. He proposed that Guardian Mercantile and Grim Securities undergo a merger. His vision, a PMC that offers more than security and a trading organization that could provide an excess of protection for the goods it carried, was just the ticket Owen needed in order to save his business.

Guardian Grim is always looking to expand its naval strength and army of traders. Looking to the future, the company plans to acquire several mobile command centers and have them strategically positioned among their supply lines, cutting costs and passing them onto you!
