History

The Past

Conceived in the year 2881 by retired UEE Advocacy General Hornet Prime, Hunters & Collectors (HAC) was originally founded under the name Universal Bag & Tag (UBAT); a specialised bounty hunting outfit tasked with neutralising some of the worst criminals in the known multi-verse. During the early decades of its operations UBAT developed an enviable service record and infamous reputation for being discreet and ruthlessly efficient at closing its contracts. These traits were codified in the company mantra “We do not fail. We live to succeed.”

General Prime’s legacy of delivering criminals to justice, one way or another, had been forged over decades in a “crucible” of war, but times were changing. Centuries of conflict with the Tevarin and Xi’An empires had recently lost ground to an ambitious diplomatic movement aimed at securing lasting peace and prosperity for humanity. The sun was finally setting on UBAT’s horizon…or so it seemed.

The universe, however, abhors a vacuum and wasted little time filling the void with an unexpected and savage new enemy; the Vanduul. The dawn of the ensuing war would create strategic opportunities for UBAT. It just needed a leader with the vision to recognise them.

In 2934, following a chance discussion with his entrepreneurial grandson and heir, Hornet Alpha, the General was convinced of a business case to expand UBAT’s portfolio into complementary services, made viable by the Vanduul threat. These included battlefield salvage and trade, information running, security detail and VIP transportation.

In 2942, after securing his legacy and the future of his enterprise, General Prime stepped down as Chairman of UBAT and from its ashes HAC emerged under the capable new leadership of Daimyo Hornet Alpha.

The Present

Within the first few years of its inception HAC built upon UBAT’s solid foundation and stirling reputation by diversifying its client base and service portfolio to become a fully-fledged multi-versal corporation. No longer was HAC limited solely to acquiring and collecting military sanctioned bounties but instead busied itself with securing complementary work from all manner of clientele, including private collectors, trade conglomerates, mercenary guilds, arms dealers, interplanetary governments and law enforcement agencies.

Officially, HAC’s operations include bounty hunting and salvaging, however, beneath this respected exterior exists an intricate web of secrecy and subterfuge. At the heart of the conspiracy unsolicited rumours abound of black market trade in alien artifacts, illicit goods, classified military technologies and sensitive commercial information.

HAC is known to employ reputable and trusted freelancers on retainer to execute a substantial portion of its contract work. Its known revenue streams include percentage based takes on the apprehension or termination of sanctioned targets, reappropriation and sale of battlefield salvage and the secure relocation of strategic goods, personnel and information.

Its legacy fleet is stationed throughout the Vega, Elysium and Rihlah systems, although its reach extends through much of known space thanks to its trusted network of mercenaries, junkers, brokers and informants.

Manifesto

It is said that a life in service to others is a life with purpose.

In feudal Japan on ancient Earth there existed a privileged class of warriors (bushi) who dedicated their lives to the service of fief lords (daimyo). Such warriors were called “samurai,” a polite term meaning “those who serve.” Thus originated bushido, the Way of the Warrior; a code for living and dying well.

HAC’s core values are based on the Bushido code. We are the samurai of the future and our contract is our lord.

Like a master forged blade, we have been beaten and burned, folded and quenched, polished and sharpened in the crucible of war. Now we rise anew, from the ashes of our forebears. We are here to serve, human and alien alike. We are Hunters and Collectors, and we lay claim to the universe.

Charter

HAC is an elite bounty hunting and salvaging organisation known throughout the multi-verse for its unwavering commitment to its clientele and uncompromising ability to get the job done.

To achieve this, we commit to undertake our work with utmost discretion, execute our contracts with ruthless efficiency, honour duty above personal gain and meet our obligations regardless of cost.

We do not fail. We live to succeed.
