Faith and Fury
The Sword of Sol, a Polaris-class capital ship, cleaved through the void, its immense thrusters burning like angry suns. From its command bridge, Inquisitor Veridian Lux watched the swirling nebulae, a celestial tapestry of cosmic dust and divine design. He was a man carved from granite, his face a testament to unwavering faith and countless campaigns against the “xeno taint.” Around him, the bridge crew, all veterans of the Emperor’s Black Watch, moved with silent, efficient precision, their dark uniforms and steely gazes reflecting the grim dedication that permeated every deck of the ship “Incoming transmission, Inquisitor,” reported Captain Theron, his voice a low growl. “From the frontier world of Xylos Prime. Another xeno incursion.”
Lux’s jaw tightened. Xylos Prime, a nascent human colony, had been plagued for months by the K’tharr, a fungal-based sentient species that desecrated habitable worlds with their sprawling mycelial networks. “Deploy the Korpsemen,” he commanded, his voice resonating with cold finality. “Purge them from the Emperor’s sight.”
Below decks, in the sterile, unyielding barracks, the Death Korps of Krieg awaited their orders. They were a legion of the damned, clad in gas masks and trench coats, their every action dictated by an almost suicidal devotion to duty and a chilling disregard for their own lives. These were the Emperor’s most zealous instruments of purification, bred and trained for total war against the alien. Sergeant Kaelen, his voice raspy through his vox-filter, barked orders. His squad, silent and unblinking, checked their lasguns and bayonets. Their transports were already prepped, engines thrumming.
As the dropships detached from the Sword of Sol, streaking like meteors towards Xylos Prime, Lux turned to a hololithic display of the planet. The K’tharr had spread, their spore-cities scarring the once-pristine landscape. “Faith Militant will accompany the Black Watch ground forces,” he declared. “We will make an example of Xylos Prime. Let this be a testament to humanity’s resolve, a beacon of defiance against the encroaching darkness. For the Emperor, and for Mankind!”
The combined forces, a terrifying symphony of disciplined Black Watch firepower, fanatical Faith Militant zeal, and the relentless, unfeeling advance of the Death Korps, descended upon Xylos Prime. The battle for humanity’s purity had begun anew, a brutal testament to their xenophobic creed, and the Sword of Sol hung above, an avenging angel in the unforgiving void.
