Hobo Battle Utilisations Mob / HOBOBUM

The Hobo Battle Utilisations Mob (1st Hobo Forces Operational Detachment – Mongo), better known as Mongo Force or Hobo BUM, is an unconventional and subversive “special” operations unit dedicated to toppling the powerful corporate and government forces that dominate the universe. Born from the fringes of society, Mongo Force members are a ragtag group of misfits, drifters, and outcasts who have mastered the art of weaponised incompetence and unpredictability.

What makes Mongo Force truly dangerous is not their adherence to any formal training or tactics, but their ability to turn their own chaotic incompetence into a devastating weapon. Their methods are erratic, unorthodox, and often defy logic, making them impossible to predict. From accidentally triggering enemy infighting to wreaking havoc through unintended sabotage, their actions are as baffling to their enemies as they are effective.

Mongo Force’s strength lies in its complete rejection of order and planning. Their combat style is improvised on the fly, taking advantage of random opportunities and capitalizing on the confusion they inevitably create. By appearing incompetent, they lull their enemies into a false sense of superiority, then striking at the least expected moments. The wealth and power of the universe’s oppressors are no match for the chaos Mongo Force unleashes—corporations and governments crumble not by precision weapon strikes, but by the ripple effects of absurd, reckless, and unintentional brilliance.

Armed with scavenged gear and an almost mystical ability to bungle their way into success, Mongo Force operates with a singular goal: undermine the status quo by any means necessary. To the rich and powerful, they are a joke—until it’s too late. To the downtrodden and forgotten, they are a symbol of hope and rebellion. Their motto captures their essence: “Chaos is the plan”, or as shown on their unit crest, “El caos es el plan” as the Hobos incorrectly specified Latino instead of Latin when engaging their graphic designer.

Incorporated as a primary element within the Hobo Brotherhood’s Joint Hobo Operations Command, Hobo BUM conduct missions throughout the Empire alongside other JHOC units, including the 169th Hobo Operations Aviation Regiment, Naval Hobo Warfare Rectification Umpires (NHW RectUm) and the 88th Sunboat Soldier Regiment.
