History
Independent Auditors Proprietary Limited came into being with the expedition of a particularly nasty case involving some earth-based slavers hiding behind clever contract wording and a lot of generous campaign contributions.
It wasn’t until someone took drastic steps to break sealed evidence out of a government vault that the truth of the matter could be laid before a court. The fact that the government officials admitted to classifying the evidence, in direct violation of the Historical Truth Act, led to their arrest and prevention of further interference with the case against a group of slavers posing as an recruitment agency subcontracting to ultradeep mining operations.
If history teaches us anything, it is that poorly engineered rules must sometimes be broken in order to be upheld.
Manifesto
From a strictly technical standpoint, an act is only illegal if a court of law hands down a conviction. Prior to this, the presumption of innocence is the most fundamental right a human being can have, irrespective of legal system. And when a plaintiff or prosecutor cannot overcome this most fundamental human right with honestly-won evidence, the gloves come off.
Our ability to act for our clients, when those gloves inevitably come off, depends on our neutrality.- We are not the UEE Advocacy.
- We are not the outlaws.
Black marks with either side are simply bad for business. While, under extreme conditions, an executive may call the closure of an account (subject to the approval of the Managing Director), it is much more common for us, in our line of work, to simply try to get on. After all, your previous adversary could just as easily wind up being your next client.
Charter
The role of an Independent Auditor is to examine the chain of evidence for breaks, tampering and fabrication in addition to fully investigating a case for conveniently omitted evidence. Strictly in this context, the end very much justifies the means because fabrication of evidence as well as tampering and breaks in the chain of evidence are a direct assault on the most fundamental legal right of all.
In this sense, our only rule is this. Don’t get convicted – by either side.- You’re welcome to get caught, if you’re into that kind of thing.
- You can even get yourself dragged into court – but the legal expenses will be yours to bear.
- But, if you get convicted, there are compelling legal reasons why we can no longer use your services.
