Once a colossal interstellar power, the Imperial Empire was brought to its knees by the Xi’An and thought destroyed. But in the shadows our resurrection has begun, and while we look to the future, we never forget, we never forgive.
Beginning as a single planet on the border of UEE space, the Imperials struck out on their own after the UEE seemed to have little interest in aiding them against pirate and Vanduul raiders. After a particularly brutal pirate raid the imperials decided to take things into their own hands. After months of searching and preparing the Imperials launched a small armada against the pirate stronghold and utterly wiped it out . Over the space of a few months several other planets in local systems who had been suffering from the pirates, impressed by the swift actions of the Imperials, pledged loyalty to them, in turn defecting from the UEE. Emboldened by their new found power, the Imperials began absorbing more and more planets into their holdings, through both peaceful methods as well as more forceful means, and renamed themselves as the Imperial Empire.
Before long they controlled a large area on the edge of UEE space, and the empire was a fledging interstellar power. As it drove its expansion deeper and deeper into unknown space they came across and attacked a small Xi’An colony when they refused to surrender to the Imperials. This sparked a large conflict with the Xi’An Empire that the Imperials simply weren’t powerful enough to counter let alone win, one by one the Imperial systems fell to the Xi’An, the populations enslaved and soldiers massacred, many had never seen such slaughter and cruelty on such a large scale. In a last ditch attempt to save what was left of their civilisation, they gathered most of their military might on a single planetary stronghold code named bastion, such a concentration of military might drew most of the Xi’An fleet to the system and one of the largest single battles in human history ensued, while the imperial navy fought heroically and inflicted severe losses on the Xi’An they ultimately lost and the Imperials had been crushed.
Despite what many, including the Xi’An, thought the battle over bastion had merely been a ruse, tens of thousands of Imperial soldiers had volunteered to give their lives in an apparent last stand in order to make the Xi’An believe that the Imperial Empire was no more. In secret the survivors began to re-build from secret facilities, fueled by their hate for the Xi’An they refused to give up and over the years they faced many threats but refused to be thwarted and swept them aside, and now the time is right to rise out of their own ashes and strike out into the universe once more.
