2003: First batch of Octomore brewed in Bruichladdich distillery in Islay
2008: The first 5 year batch of Octomore is released to the public.
2503: Brewing begins on the commemorative 500 year celebration of the Octomore. Only 500 bottles are made.
2508: The Octomore 500 is released and makes record breaking sales through online auctions.
2593: Michael Kinneman is born on the Isle of Islay.
2615: Michael Kinneman displays his entrepreneurial spirit by purchasing several low-cost cargo ships and establishing his own haulage company, Islay Enterprises. His company specialises in the direct selling and distribution of Islay Whisky throughout UEE space. The company was bankrolled by the distilleries on the Isle, whereby the owners were the main shareholders and received higher rates of return for their produce than they would have through a third party seller.
2625: Islay Enterprises expands operations into the mainland UK and Ireland – having made steady profit gains through expanding their distribution to include goods and luxury items from the colonies to Earth.
2635: Michael’s only daughter, Helen Kinneman is born.
2638: Islay Enterprises expands their operations into Europe and Asia. Michael Kinneman becomes majority shareholder of the company by buying out the existing distillery owner’s shares. However the company remains faithful to it’s roots and puts in place a legally binding contract with the Islay distilleries to provide a low cost transportation service to them for a reduced fee (the lowest bid from a rival company minus 60%).
2650: Michael Kinneman announces full operational expansion across Earth, and announces that “aggressive” expansion will take place across the colonial planets, starting with Terra.
2681: Michael Kinneman dies. Helen Kinneman inherits the company.
2703: Brewing begins at Bruichladdich distilleries on the Octomore 700 – another anniversary edition limited to just 700 bottles.
2708: The Octomore 700 is sold at record auctions once again. Just 300 bottles are reserved for Earth while 400 are shipped out to the colonies through Islay Enterprises
2708: The Islay Enterprise cargo vessel Rockside is attacked en-route to the colonial worlds by the Vanduul. During the firefight, the cargo hold was breached and the contents, including 400 bottles of ultra-rare Octomore 700 were jettisoned out into space. 20 crew were killed in an event that shocked the small but closely knit Islay Enterprises company.
2708: UEE and private investigations into the attack claim they are unable to locate the missing cargo contents, including the Octomore 700. Islay Enterprises is accused by Bruichladdich distilleries of cutting costs by not tagging the shipments with emergency broadcast beacons. The Octomore 700 is dubbed “the angel’s share” in Whisky circles in reference to the part of whisky’s volume that is usually lost through evaporation. The cargo container is publicly listed on the UEE systems as a high value-high reward lost cargo.
2709: During a commemorative service for the souls that were lost on board the Rockside, Helen Kinneman announces that Islay Enterprises will fund its own security fleet to accompany all high interest cargo vessels. She also announces a small explorative arm of the company will be formed in order to search for the missing case of Octomore 700 and that the company will not rest until it is found. A monument is erected on Isle of Islay, shaped like a container with the names of those who died with the epitaph “For those who gave the Angel her Share”.
2760: Helen Kinneman dies. In accordance with her will, the company is re-structured into an employee owned entity, with three of the largest shareholders retaining seats on the “board of directors”. This is to guarantee a high level strategic direction is followed, and the growth and success of the company is ensured. They promise to retain the company motto “Searching For The Angel’s Share Since 2708” that Helen established after the Rockside attacks until it is recovered.
2793; Islay Enterprises posts record profits – having spent the last 80 years ramping up it’s Exploration and Security services alongside the staple cargo hauling service.
2803: The Octomore 1K begins production.
2808: The Octomore 1K is released. One bottle is poured on the grounds of the monument to the Rockside crew on Isle of Islay.
2942: Present year
Isle of Islay is world famous for two things; the astounding whisky that is forged from the 12 age old distilleries on the island, and our galaxy spanning company. We have served mankind throughout the stars for over 300 years. In doing so, We have built a strong reputation as a company that is founded on honesty and integrity, and provides excellence in service.
Despite our strong steady growth across Earth and the manned colonies, we’ve remained a small and private concern. Nowhere is this more apparent than the “Head Offices” which are located in Port Charlotte, Isle of Islay, Earth.
We are an employee owned company, whose members get to vote on matters pertaining to operations and company wide decisions. Islay Enterprises is also governed by a board of three directors that oversee the operations and strategic direction of the company, as well as regularly participate in missions directly to remain “operationally savvy”. We have always remained a small and tightly knit company, as evidenced by out motto “Searching For The Angel’s Share” which is in memory of those we have lost in service.
We also take the heritage of Islay Enterprises seriously, to this day we are still the default choice for Whisky Distillers on Isle of Islay.
Islay Enterprises operates four main branches of service that we focus on to provide the majority of our business and resulting profits:
Our most recent venture – we specialise in the rescue and recovery of ships, stations and cargo alike. We offer a guaranteed “no recovery, no payment” model that makes us the number one choice for salvage operations both big and small.
Where it all began. Islay Enterprises was formed under the belief that trade was a deeply personal thing for artisans of fine Whisky. To this date we still pride ourselves on our ability to haul cargo and do fair trade throughout the stars.
Formed after the Rockside tragedy, Islay Enterprises created a Security branch which provides escort support, offensive and defensive lawful interdictions, and additional support to the UEE during times of crisis. We operate fully within UEE law.
Also formed after the Rockside tragedy, and a vanity project to help find the missing Octomore 700 (the Angel’s Share). Our Exploration service is a small but still profitable part of our business.
In addition to the four main branches of service, Islay Enterprises offers customers a consultancy service where more bespoke requirements can be discussed.
As long as they fall well within the letter and spirit of UEE law, Islay Enterprises is proud to offer a robust and effective range of services at an affordable price.
Other services that Islay Enterprises are happy to consider include:
- Bounty Hunting and Retrieval - Information Running - Red Zone operations including asset rescue - Emergency aid transportation to disaster zones - Personal/Personnel transportation - Fire Team support against Vanduul threats
Please get in touch via the main Islay Enterprises communications channel in order for us to discuss your requirements further.
Islay Enterprises prides itself on being an ethically sound company that obeys not just the letter, but the spirit of UEE law.
Members of the company must ensure that they carry out the actions of their mission in line with the follow ethical considerations:
In addition to these rules, employees should be mindful of their behaviour and conduct when on shore leave or operating missions for Islay Enterprises.
Black box recordings of any vessel conducting a service for Islay Enterprises will be heuristically scanned for indications that the above behaviours take place, in addition to periodic manual monitoring by Islay Enterprises legal teams.
Any member found to be in violation of the above code will be subject to dismissal from the board of directors. This may be put to a wider public vote by the rest of the membership.
Islay Enterprises recognises that, despite great leaps in the UEE footprint throughout manned space, there are still grave dangers inherent in the operations that we perform. Whether that is through running an escort detail or flying cargo through green space.
Islay Enterprises also understands that at times employees will have to engage in combat in order to preserve both the lives of the crew and ensure the completion of the mission.
As members of the organisation, you will adhere to the following rules of engagement:
Any instance of combat will involve immediate analysis of your ships black box by our legal team.
Any member found to be in violation of the above rules will be subject to dismissal by the board of directors. This may be put to a wider public vote in some cases.
