UNIT HISTORY

Unit Creation and Development

The Legionnaires were founded in 2932 by John ‘Eagle’ Wolf. The unit was sponsored by the – Redacted –, and as such, received its first missions through them. After being approved by the – Redacted –, John purchased two – Redacted – spaceships from the facilities on – Redacted –. After receiving a considerable discount for being sponsored by – Redacted –, who owns the facilities, he procured a – Redacted – and an old – Redacted – which had been upgraded to carry more modern technology. After successfully completing three contracts, the unit was then able to acquire a – Redacted –, followed a short while later by a – Redacted – and an additional – Redacted –. This was a major milestone for the fledgling unit, as being able to field a complete wing meant that John was ready to separate from – Redacted – with his Legionnaires and began independent Mercenary operations – all within the first year of the unit’s conception.

For the first three years (2932-2935) of the unit’s independence they hopped from contract to contract, never having a home base. By the end of their fourth year (2936) of operation the Legionnaires had grown greatly and consisted of six fully operational spaceships, complete with interchangeable and replacement weapons and armour, and four support ships. In the fifth year (2937) following their conception, the Legionnaires had their first run in with – Redacted – – an encounter that would cause the mercenary unit to swear off any further dealings with the fanatical – Redacted –. During that conflict the unit was nearly decimated, and John “Eagle” Wolf nearly lost his life. Fortunately, enough funds existed that the unit was able to be replenished to near-full strength. At the end of the Legionnaires’ fifth year (2937) the mercenaries had another run-in with the – Redacted – – one that proved to be far more fatal. The unit lost three ships, as well as their Commander, when his signature – Redacted – cockpit was destroyed with a single gauss round.

With the death of John Wolf, the unit retreated and regrouped. Leadership was passed down to Adam “Gunman” Wolf, John’s young nephew, then 23. In retaliation for the death of their previous commander, Adam Wolf led the Legionnaires on a night raid against the nearest – Redacted – outpost, and managed to recapture John’s – Redacted – as well as a sizeable cache of supplies. A few months later, Benjamin Edward Maxwell enlisted in the Legionnaires. Maxwell quickly proved himself, and rose through the ranks until the unit command structure was modified to allow joint command between Wolf and Maxwell. Maxwell was a long time associate of Adam’s and was an extremely adept pilot and capable commander who left – Redacted – for reasons unknown.

Under new command the unit rebuilt itself to its former strength – two full Wings and six support craft – over the course of the next two years (2938-2939). During that time, it was decided that the unit required a base of operations.– Redacted – was chosen, and an old isolated airfield located on the southern continent was converted into their base. In 2940, Benjamin Maxwell was tasked with obtaining a Cruiser in order to increase their availability for contracts. Maxwell returned with an old retrofitted and very well used – Redacted –, named Thorin. The ancient Cruiser was destroyed during Operation: MoonShield II, and replaced with a more modern – Redacted – some time later.

The unit has then continued operations till present day. Due to their impressive history and proficiency rating, the Legionnaires have a wide variety of contracts available to them and are never at a lack for work.
