The Knights of Cydonia are not a public banner, not a recruitment poster, and not a primary allegiance. We are a shadow instrument woven through the fabric of the verse—present where we are needed, absent where we are not. We are balance.
History
The Knights of Cydonia were born in the final days of Old Earth—a hidden order descended from the ancient Templar circles and Masonic dynasties. For generations, they shaped the balance of power on Earth—guiding economies, influencing wars, and steering governments from behind the veil. But as their influence grew, so did fear—fear that these shadow architects would topple governments outright. When Earth’s powers exposed them, the Order was branded extremists, conspirators—and the wealthy leaders of the original movement, those who descended from the oldest lines, were the first to flee. They were rich enough to escape Earth’s decay, and so they took flight to Mars, long before the United Empire of Earth took control.
On Mars, they built a new home beneath the storms of Cydonia. There, hidden in the red dust, they discovered something extraordinary—Noctis Iron, a rare black metal, stronger than steel, forged deep beneath the surface. Alongside it, they found gold—plentiful in the Martian soil—an abundance unlike Earth, where gold was rare. But for the Knights, gold was not a symbol of wealth. It was a mark of lineage—a reminder that their purpose was never greed, but balance. Thus, the Knights of Cydonia forged their armor—black as obsidian, gold inlaid in patterns unique to each Knight. It was not simply protection—it was an oath, binding them to a cause greater than themselves.
When the United Empire of Earth unified the planets, the Knights did not rise up to claim dominion. Instead, they watched, hidden, embedding themselves once more—this time not as rulers, but as guardians of equilibrium. Each Knight, each agent, could walk freely within their own organizations—a corporate executive, a senator, a pilot—never betraying their public roles. But when the Knights called—when the Order sent for them, or when a Knight, a brother, reached out for aid—they answered swiftly. There was never a betrayal, no grand reveal—it was a precise strike, a subtle shift in the balance. The Knights never needed the limelight—they ensured that no empire, no faction, ever swayed too far. Because in every shadow, on every trade route, in every power structure, the Knights of Cydonia waited until balance was threatened—and then, unseen, they ensured it was never lost.

Intention and Purpose
We, the Knights of Cydonia, exist to preserve balance in the cosmos.
We are a secondary Order, a shadow organization, never seeking public dominance, but acting when balance falters.
Our purpose is to ensure no power sways too far toward chaos or order; we act discreetly, only when equilibrium is at risk.
Rank Structure
Grand Master: The founder and eternal guide, never surpassed, ensuring the Order stays true to its mission.
Knight Luminary (Rank 5): The pinnacle of wisdom and vision, guiding the Order’s future with insight.
Knight Warden (Rank 4): Regional overseers who manage long-term balance, ensuring every mission aligns with the larger vision.
Knight Sentinel (Rank 3): Regional leaders who mentor Marshals, ensuring precise coordination and execution in the field.
Knight Marshal (Rank 2): Field commanders who lead Knights on missions, ensuring discipline and tactical success.
Knight (Rank 1): Proven initiates who have shown loyalty, strategy, and selflessness, now trusted with responsibility.
Space Cowboy (Rank 0): Aspirants who explore, prove themselves, and begin their journey toward Knighthood.
Roles and Responsibilities
Grand Master: The founder and final arbiter, guiding all decisions, ensuring the Order never strays from its balance.
Prime Steward: The officer who manages all members, ranks, and roles—ensuring promotions, record-keeping, and structure remain intact.
Pathfinder: The recruiter who discovers new talent, seeking out Space Cowboys, and inviting them to join the path.
Visionary: The marketing lead who crafts the Order’s message, inspiring others through outreach and storytelling.
Policy on Role and Action
Every member continues their public duties within their own organizations; we do not demand a public betrayal.
We are a secondary force; we never require overt fighting against one’s own affiliations.
When balance falters, when a power grows too large or too small, we act in the shadows.
We will attack, support, or guide when called by the Grand Master; but we never disrupt balance for personal gain.
The black and gold armor, worn by Knights, is a symbol of this oath—no one sees us as conquerors; we are the quiet correction, the steady hand ensuring balance when the universe tips.

Charter of the Knights of Cydonia
1. Purpose of the Order
The Knights of Cydonia are a secondary organization, acting in the shadows to preserve balance in the cosmos.
We do not seek public power; we do not demand open betrayal from our members.
Our members remain embedded in their existing organizations, and they will act surprised if called upon.
2. Secrecy and Surprise
When a Knight is activated, they will be just as surprised as anyone in their organization.
They do not publicly resist; instead, they assist us discreetly, opening doors, lowering defenses, or diverting power to enable our intervention.
Our strength lies in these private acts; the power we wield is from our members in these organizations.
3. Use of Power
Our goal is to intercept and secure technology that should never fall into criminal or greedy corporate hands.
When we disrupt these large-scale efforts, we do so not for personal gain, but to stop imbalance.
Any loot or technology recovered will be evenly distributed to all members at a later time; the Order does not keep all profits—it is shared equally.
4. Communication
All Knights will coordinate through Discord; it is our secure channel for communication, planning, and updates.
When a Knight is requested to join an operation, they will join the server of the Knight requesting the action, ensuring unified coordination in private.
All discussions, plans, and member details will remain private; no member will ever be publicly identified or exposed.
5. Loyalty and Discretion
We never betray a fellow member. Our identities are redacted; we remain silent guardians.
We communicate only when necessary and never publicly reveal a member’s involvement.
Our mission is balance, not conquest; we act only to restore order when the scales tip too far.
