Just after the Quantum Core Engine Technology was invented back in 2070’s and Mars was unsuccessfully terraformed in 2125, a specialized team of highly experienced professionals was formed in order to investigate the tragedy. Discovering that the cause was a miscalculation in the atmospheric processors, the information was handed to RSI and the organization vanished. Mercurial remained dormant for a few decades until the first colonial flight in 2232 dissapeared mid-flight in the Neso Triangle. As the only existing organization that had the potential to undertake such a mission, Mercurial was summoned once again to aid the United Earth Empire by study the space anomaly, where its findings still remain secret only for the highest ranking members and UEE governors. Since the expansion of humanity and contact with other species, Mercurial and its members have remained an secretive covert-ops organization which is known to sustain itself by receiving untraceable resources from its trade/exploration/mining sub-structures.
