History

The Mile High Club isn’t just some cheeky, offhand joke. It’s actually a cultural institution with deep social significance.

It all began, of course, way back in the early 20th century when private aircraft were a novelty and commercial planes barely had the altitude or speed to make it a feasible pursuit. Joining the “Mile High Club” was essentially a playful and rebellious act—an emblem of defiance against conventional norms in confined spaces. What started as an almost farcical urban legend among daring travelers gradually morphed into an enduring symbol of freedom and adventure. For decades, it remained a secret society of sorts, but as air travel evolved, so did the act’s societal relevance.

By the 23rd century, space travel was becoming as common as long-haul flights were back in the 2000s, and the notion of the “Mile High” extended beyond Earth’s atmosphere. It wasn’t just a question of altitude anymore; it was about experiencing intimacy in extreme places, pushing human limits in exhilarating environments. Spacecraft even began to offer specialized “privacy pods,” essentially luxurious suites designed to allow passengers to share these intimate, boundary-pushing experiences. It wasn’t just a trivial or rebellious act; it became a badge of honor and even, in some strange way, a rite of passage.

Now, here in 2954, the Mile High Club has become a symbol of human resilience and a collective memory of our adventurous spirit. The whole thing is even ritualized; we now have ceremonies and events held on ships and stations in orbit. Joining the “Mile High Club” signifies a deep appreciation of pushing boundaries—not just physically, but culturally.

Manifesto

In 2954, Mile High stands as both a symbol and an institution, with intentions, motives, and views deeply embedded in its place in society.

Intentions

Mile High aims to foster a spirit of exploration and personal freedom, representing humanity’s enduring pursuit of boundary-pushing experiences. It seeks to create spaces—both physical and psychological—where individuals can engage in moments of intimacy and vulnerability, even in extreme or extraordinary settings. Its overarching purpose is to uphold and celebrate human curiosity, connection, and the courage to embrace new dimensions of existence, whether in the sky, deep space, or beyond.

Motives

The motives behind Mile High are a blend of tradition and progressivism. Originally spurred by rebellion and thrill-seeking, its modern motives are rooted in facilitating unique human experiences that connect people to a legacy of exploration. There’s also an underlying motive to sustain a sense of novelty and wonder in society, encouraging people to explore, experience, and reimagine their environments. By expanding its influence, Mile High seeks to remind society of the importance of spontaneity, adventure, and emotional connection, even in a highly structured and technologically advanced future.

Views

Mile High views itself as a champion of human spirit and intimacy, believing that unique, shared experiences in extraordinary environments foster resilience, empathy, and openness. It values individual choice and the right to pursue adventures that might defy conventional norms. While recognizing its roots in novelty, it views its transformation into a cultural institution as an evolution, one that shows how playfulness and rebellion can lead to deeper meanings and traditions. It sees itself as a reminder that human beings, no matter how technologically advanced, still crave the thrill of connection and discovery.

Charter

The Mile High Club in 2954, now a respected institution, has established a set of public rules that members are expected to follow to maintain the club’s integrity and promote a safe, respectful experience for all. These rules reflect the club’s cultural significance and uphold its values of exploration, connection, and responsibility.

1. Respect and Consent

• All interactions and experiences must be consensual, with clear communication between all involved parties. Members must respect the boundaries and comfort levels of others, ensuring that every experience is mutually enjoyable and safe.

2. Discretion and Privacy

• Members are expected to uphold a high standard of discretion. Privacy is paramount, and sharing or discussing personal experiences outside of designated Mile High spaces is strictly prohibited unless all parties involved consent. This rule preserves the club’s integrity and respects individuals’ privacy.

3. Safety and Preparedness

• Members must adhere to all safety protocols and regulations outlined by transportation and space authorities. This includes using designated areas (like privacy pods) when available and following emergency procedures. Mile High encourages members to be responsible adventurers, prioritizing safety at all times.

4. Cultural Sensitivity

• Given the global and interplanetary nature of Mile High, members are expected to respect cultural differences and local customs wherever they travel. This ensures that the club remains an inclusive community, sensitive to the diversity of its members.

5. Environmental Responsibility

• Members are committed to leaving no trace and ensuring that their experiences do not negatively impact their surroundings. This rule reflects Mile High’s commitment to sustainability, especially as activities extend to fragile environments like orbiting stations or extraterrestrial locations.

6. Exclusive Spaces

• Activities associated with the Mile High experience must occur only in designated, club-sanctioned spaces, such as privacy pods or sanctioned areas in craft and stations. Unauthorized use of public or restricted spaces is strictly prohibited to maintain safety and respect for others.

7. Ambassadorship

• Members are considered ambassadors of Mile High values—adventure, respect, and human connection. As such, they are expected to act with dignity and integrity, reflecting the club’s esteemed place in society.

8. Membership Confidentiality

• Membership identities are confidential. Members are forbidden from disclosing others’ membership status without permission. This rule protects members’ privacy and keeps the club’s atmosphere respectful and exclusive.

By following these rules, Mile High members honor the club’s legacy, fostering a community rooted in mutual respect, safety, and a shared love of exploration and meaningful connection.
