New Valhalla Republic, Always say NEVAR.

History

It was in honor of Valhalla, the first city razed by the Tevarian at the onset of the The First Tevarian War in year 2541, that our grandparents named their new colony on Pria IV, in the Garron Region. This remote frontier colony on the fringe of UEE space was initially an agricultural exploit made by a clan of simple farmers. Shortly after the colony’s establishment in 2896, vast amounts of iron ore were discovered deep beneath the planet’s surface. This gave New Valhalla a promising future as a mining colony since the construction of the SynthWorld had nearly tripled the price of iron. In little more than three decades, the colony evolved into a thriving settlement. Major trading companies included the colony in their shipping routes.

The colony lacked one thing, a defense force. Small pirate and Vanduul encounters were either handled by the colony’s police force or the nearby UEE forces of the 516th Battle Group assigned to the region. When the fierce but brief Vanduul Assaults began in year 2929. The 516th Battle Group, positioned only a few hours away, was called to regroup with the Draco Fleet and move to protect the more densely populated nexus planet of Terra. The New Valhalla Governor’s Council pleaded with Rear Admiral Hull of the 516th to leave even a handful of fighters behind to defend the colony, but the Rear Admiral insisted he’d need every pilot he had to defend Terra. He promised to send help as soon as Terra was secured.

The Vanduul arrived soon after the 516th made their jump. It was only a small raiding party, but more than enough to slaughter the colony’s small police force and anyone else who opposed them. Surprisingly, the Vanduul caused little damage other than destroying ships, several fuel depots, and stealing cargo haulers loaded with iron ore. The packs of pirates that came after the police were gone were much worse. They combed through the colony, going door-to-door, raping and pillaging as they desired. Many citizens were killed, captured, or sold into slavery.

After their defense of Terra, the UEE Battle Group returned to the Garron Region to find New Valhalla a smoldering wasteland of what it once was. Today it is estimated that barely one percent of New Valhalla’s population survived, the majority of which were working month-long shifts deep underground in the iron mines when the assault took place. A legend exists that when Rear Admiral Hull personally asked for permission to land to assist with the recovery effort he was denied. When he asked why, the EDL traffic controller replied, “We will never need your help again.”

From the ashes of New Valhalla comes The New Valhalla Republic. We are the survivors of the fallen colony, named after the fallen city. We will not repeat the mistakes of our predecessors and suffer their fate. The Republic will be able to defend itself against all enemies. Every member of NEVAR receives training in spacecraft and infantry combat from the age of fifteen until death. While NEVAR is not an enemy of the UEE, and typically operates with respect for its laws, The New Valhalla Republic doesn’t trust the UEE. The Republic has, at least temporarily, abandoned the prospect of establishing a new colony to call home despite UEE promises of protection. For now, The Republic operates out of hangers scattered around the ‘verse.

Charter

Oaths of The Republic

Members of the New Valhalla Republic shall keep the following oaths or face court martial:
(In order of precedence)

1. My word is my bond. I will fulfill every contract I accept. I will only accept contracts sanctioned by the New Valhalla Republic, unless given explicit authorization otherwise. I will understand the details of a contract before I accept it. I understand NEVAR must first sanction contracts to ensure they do not conflict with The Republic’s interests, alliances, and current operations. If I accept a contract that isn’t sanctioned by NEVAR, I do so of my own accord, and without the assistance and backing of The Republic. I will pursue my contract until its completion. If I cannot complete the contract on my own, I will enlist the help of my element members. If my element cannot complete the contract, our highest ranking member will inform our ranking officer, who shall coordinate support with the flight and squadron.

“A contract with Valhalla is a safer bet than that the sun will rise.”

2. I will carry myself with honor. I will keep my word and not be dishonest. I will not disgrace myself by fleeing a battle, leaving a fellow soldier behind, or displaying cowardice of any sort. I will not cause turmoil among the ranks of my comrades whether by propagating lies, encouraging corruption, or planning mutiny. I will show respect to fellow members of The Republic, and resolve disagreements professionally. If I am appointed a position of authority within NEVAR, I will uphold all standards and expectations held to a person of my rank and title. I will proudly represent The New Valhalla Republic and not disrespect my own banner.

“Even their peasants walked as kings.”

3. I shall keep the confidence of my company. I will discuss the nature of my work with only those whom it concerns. The Republic’s discreet nature with handling sensitive contracts will not be disrupted on my account. I will share as little information as possible to carry out my mission. I understand if important information gets into the wrong hands there will be consequences, and is ground for the termination of my contract and employment with NEVAR. I will remain loyal to The Republic as they are loyal to me. If I believe I am being wronged I will not harbor ill will, but bring it to the attention of NEVAR leadership. I know that any bribe or favor received by me for information or cooperative action by an enemy or neutral entity will be doubled instead by The Republic. I will keep a watchful eye against espionage and sabotage from within our ranks.

“After weeks of torture, his shadow spilled more secrets than he… though not more blood.”
