History

Who are we?

Orison Expeditionary Group (OEG) was formed to provide AU/NZ Region players a balance of organisation and training, alongside more casual gameplay. With an aim to streamline any organisation administration, OEG strives to not be the second job that some orgs are, while still holding ourselves to a higher standard.

How do we achieve this?

The secret sauce is a combination of a focus on well organised events with a variety of gameplay, while also providing pathways for all players, be they looking for something casual, or something a bit more organised. Functionally this looks like events classifications, the two membership pathways and the hands off approach to administration, leadership and training.

Check the Manifesto for more information on these concepts.

Manifesto

Events Classifications

Public Operations:
Designed for simplicity and accessibility, these events require minimal planning and preparation. Examples include activities like Race Nights, Mole Mining or Bunker Runs. Public Operations are open to all, making them ideal for friends with limited experience in Star Citizen to participate.

Orgwide Operations:
These events aim to include all members of the organisation. Core members take the lead in planning and organising these activities. For instance, a Jumptown event might see Core members acting as escorts and security, while Casual members handle drug transport and sales. Inter-organization events also fall into this category.

Core Operations:
Core Operations are tailored to challenge and hone the skills of Core members. They serve as training exercises and preparation for Joint events with organisations like Legacy Fleet. An example could involve securing locations such as Ghost Hollow or Jumptown to create combat scenarios.

Joint Operations:
Unlike competitive Inter-organization events, Joint Operations focus on collaboration with other organisations to achieve common objectives. Examples include collaborating on a Joint Jumptown event or providing security for events like the Daymar Rally.

Membership Types

Casual
Designed for individuals seeking casual and ad hoc events at a basic level. The Recruit Training component is straightforward, meant to be easily achievable in Public event nights.

Core
Tailored for those interested in structured and collaborative PvP events at an advanced level. Outside of the initial training requirements, Core Members are not obligated to be the absolute sweaty best, although currency is certainly encouraged.

Organisational Philosophy

Administration and Leadership
Unlike other, hierarchical organisations, OEG aims to be run by the members, for the members. This means that while there are several “Staff” positions, these are intended to be more administrative in nature.

Executive (Storm-Eagle & Tayobat)
The Executive’s role is to act as the guiding light for OEG, ensuring that the intent is being met. Internally, this is done by mediating disputes, taking and actioning feedback and writing policy if required. This does not extend to functional leadership in game (although there may be crossover in qualifications). Externally, this means representing the org, organising inter-org events and the like.

Trainer
Trainers are responsible for maintaining OEG’s primary training (Recruit & Core Training), as well as building new courses such as Additional Qualifications. They, along with SMEs are a resource for those wanting to learn and refine their Star Citizen Gameplay.

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
These players are recognised as being experts in their fields and a resource for their Orgmates. For example a Mining SME would be your go to for advice on mining. They have no training obligations or duties.

Recruiter
These players are responsible for assisting new members through the onboarding journey.

Team, Group & Mission Leads
In Orgwide, Core and Joint Operations, Leadership is provided by Core Members who have successfully completed training modules focused on teaching them how to lead Teams (1-2 Assets/ 4-8 Players), Groups (2-4 Teams) and Missions (Multiple Groups). They have no administrative responsibility or power.

Training

Primary Training
Recruit and Core training provides the fundamental training for OEG Members.

Recruit Training is aimed to be simplistic and a basic check to ensure the member can look out for themselves and their orgmates in simple scenarios. This avoids issues of players not knowing how to fly, heal each other or defend themselves to a basic standard.

Core Training aims to expand on Recruit Training and adds advanced concepts like hacking and team fighting while expanding on basic combat and medical skills.

Additional Qualifications (AdQuals)
AdQuals provide short training in concepts either not covered, or briefly covered in Primary Training. Examples may include Mining, Salvage, EMP or Torpedo bombing. Two types exist, Core AdQuals, i.e. those open to just Core members (e.g. Cavalry Scouting) and Orgwide AdQuals, i.e. those open to all, such as Mining.

AdQuals are not required, but they do help identify SMEs and give fun gameplay while practising.

Leadership Training
Provided to Core Members with a desire to act in leadership roles during Operations. It focuses on teaching them how to lead Teams (1-2 Assets/ 4-8 Players), Groups (2-4 Teams) and Missions (Multiple Groups).

Charter

Intent and Principles

Intent
To be a well organised, expeditionary organisation that is flexible and lethal in achievement of organisational goals.

Principles

1. Real Life Comes First
At the end of the day, we realise that this is a game. We are flexible enough to make things work when other things come first. If you need to go away for a while that’s fine, just let us know.
2. Not the Best, Better than Most
Due to the intense requirements to maintain high PvP standards, we’re not a hardcore PvP Org. However, our discipline and training means we aim to be better than your average SC Player/Org.
3. Training & Discipline
For our Core members we have training requirements in place to ensure competency across the board. This gives us trust in each other while providing plenty of emergent gameplay opportunities while gaining Qualifications or helping others with theirs. By extension, we’re disciplined in approach during our operations. This doesn’t mean we don’t blow off steam, but there is a time and place.
4. Don’t be a dick
Quite a simple concept, bullying, discrimination and the like are not tolerated. The Discord will be moderated accordingly.
5. Fun above all else
At the end of the day the aim of any game is to have fun. We aim to have a mix of Casual, Training and Operational Events which cater to a wide variety of members. We have Casual Membership for those not interested in training pathways.

Why are these important?

Every decision, action and partnership OEG conducts is looked at through the lens of these principles. Any member should feel comfortable pointing out if a decision has been made, that doesn’t take these into account.
