Paragon Defense Industries Is a Private military organization that focus on bounty hunting and mercenary work. PDI also has a mining and logistical branch to keep the organization well funded, and the fleet supplied.
Originating from settlers on Hurston, Paragon Defense Industries’ members and their families were accustomed to a hard life in mining, construction, or factory work. Brought together by bartering and favors, the ancestry behind this organization dates back to early 2900’s. In 2922 the members were ambushed by a group of pirates looking to extort them for their money and cargo. As the years went on the frequency of tussles with pirates attempting to pray off civilians landed the group in their crosshairs multiple times. With their previous misfortunes, and the increasing danger of pirates the small band decided to pool resources together and purchased their first combat ship. The group sold one of their mining ships and a cargo vessel. That coupled with support from group they were able to purchase their first gunship. This allowed the group to protect their transports as well as providing security for other mercantile ships, and setting traps for pirates to take the fight to them. With the increased piracy the group was able to capitalize on this to hone their skills to dispatch of targets quick, and efficient even if outnumbered, while earning a healthy profit. Over time, the small group came together and made a name for themselves in the defense of people just trying to make ends meet. In mid 2927, members decided to label the group as Paragon Defense Industries after great success in destroying a group of pirates near Aberdeen that managed to get their hands on a capital ship.
As they grew in ships and numbers, so did their support. More members were trained experienced pilots, funding came in for ship upgrades, and contracts were signed–giving PDI a financial edge against malicious attackers and creating an even more positive reputation. Soon, piracy in the area wasn’t as prevalent. This allowed PDI to expand their branches in bounty hunting, Mercenary work, large-scale mining, exploration, logistical support, and government-contracted military work the defense-based company thrived. Participating in an incursion by a radical group known as XenoThreat in 2951, PDI was integral in fending off the extremists and bringing down multiple capital threats. Utilizing their own assets as well as assisting other citizens of the CDF by providing over watch and transferring goods needed to the INS Jericho space station.
Now, reasonably sized, PDI assists in nearly every aspect of the verse. They are known for having the “Speak softly, and carry a big stick” mentality and are very rarely trifled with; regardless of their smaller size in comparison to other factions. The abrupt “Bye.” succeeded by a torpedo is usually the only radio contact aggressors hear from members of the PDI; choosing to ignore any insults while simply outmaneuvering and outgunning the problem.
