Pangolin is an independent trading outfit, with few rules other than no slave traffic or piracy. Scavenging hulls, bartering and seeing things others haven’t all fit into the job description: and if work’s slow, a bit of bounty hunting or honest smuggling never hurt no one. “Pangolin Means Profit!”
Pangolin Salvage and Delivery is the lone venture of a single enterprising jack-of-all-trades. Now affiliated with XPLOR, the Horologian Library and Operation Pitchfork!
While open to expansion, Pangolin’s focus on independent trade and exploration positions it as neutral to any further hiring. However, in the unlikely event of an application, new candidates will of course be looked at with all possible consideration- after all, “Pangolin Means Profit!” and profit is easier to attain as a team than alone.
None the less, profit (not teamwork) is the true focus of the company, and Pangolin is positioned to excel toward that goal whatever its numbers. So here’s us- on the raggedy edge.
Why “Pangolin”?
We’re glad you asked! Quite simply, the pangolin is an allegory for our corporate philosophy. They won’t bite, but they’re practically invulnerable in the wild: and in Earth antiquity, were known in Chinese folklore as mystical creatures that could be anywhere in an instant, using a network of magical tunnels that “sat under every inch of the world”- not unlike a network of Jump Points. Solitary and nocturnal, the pangolin is a bit of an oddball- but then so are we, so the shoe fits.
Earth’s only scaled mammal, the pangolin was almost hunted to extinction nearly a millenium ago- in the early 21st century. Today in the 30th century however, pangolins have become a stable, non-endangered species that have spread across the ‘Verse. Now also found on worlds such as Terra Prime and Saisei: they are most often imported from Earth as pets given their docile nature, and have even been introduced on several agricultural planets and moons as a remarkably effective means of pest control. Overall, we felt it was a name we could trust.
Pangolin Salvage and Delivery – “Pangolin Means Profit!”
Pangolin operates on the principle of independent, entrepreneurial endeavors- endeavors of the non-murdering, pillage free variety that is.
While not opposed to the odd bit of smuggling or bounty hunting when the pay is scarce, slave trading and piracy are out of the question. The main targets of this operation are old hulls that need looting, and trade that needs doing- and hell, if we happen to chart a jump point or two in the process, that’s some mighty tasty gravy.Prospective affiliates/employees are free to engage in membership with other organizations, and can expect little (if any) interference from head office. Just keep the books in the green, jobs (mostly) legal, and remember- “Pangolin Means Profit!”
The Pangolin Salvage and Delivery company charter is a simple one:
We do the job, and we get paid.
We don’t murder folk who don’t deserve it, and we sure as hell don’t sell ‘em.
The odd bit of smuggling and the like are fair game. Don’t get caught.
Trading and working with pirates on jobs that don’t involve direct acts of piracy or slave trading on the part of a Pangolin employee will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Other than that, employees are expected to conduct business how and with whom they see fit.
