History

17 April 2937 : The pieces fall into place

The Taranis system. A virtually unremarkable location serving as little more than a stop between jump points. Not much for tourists or prospectors to look at, but the perfect location for a training battle between UEE fighter groups and their respective carriers. Twelve fighter groups in all took part in the friendly competition, six from each carrier. During the midst of the mach battle, a group of roaming pirate sought to capitalize on the opportunity before them. With the fighters’ weapons set to a training mode, they were unable to cause any damage to an oncoming threat. It wasn’t long before the UEE fighters started being picked off like flies.

Once the remaining fighters were able to reconfigure their weapon systems to combat the pirate threat, a great number of them had either been disabled, or scattered across space in pieces. Outnumbered by the loss of their forces, and outgunned, the fighters had an uphill battle ahead of them. As the numbers dwindled, no one pilot was a part of their original squad anymore. Whether it was due to poor luck, or just cosmic coincidence, the pilot that had chosen to take point, Lieutenant Colonel Alex “Shroud” Dakaar, chose to call his new wing Squadron Thirteen.

As the fight dragged on, the newly created squadron managed to force the pirates into a hasty retreat, giving the UEE pilots a chance to perform rescue and salvage operations for what had become of their fallen allies. With one of the two carriers damaged and unable to house any fighters, the Squadron was assigned to the surviving ship. The Kestrel became the new home for Squadron Thirteen, and for the rest of the pilots on the squad, it would be where they remained for the rest of their military careers.

25 June 2942 : On to a new field

As each member of Squadron Thirteen left their military service, each felt a desire to continue working with one another in the same way they had over the past years. With security working going to the highest bidder, and readily available combat pilots in constant demand, the squadron kept their number and emblem, choosing to call themselves Operations Group 13. Since that day, the Group has become involved in a number of sorties across the galaxy, escorting exploration groups to new systems, hunting down high profile criminals, and other missions that have been brought to their attention. The only sorts of things the Group would not be bought for were missions of a criminal nature. Such affairs were considered forbidden by their standards. The only time that any member of the Group would violate any part of their code of conduct would be in order to save their charge, or one of their own.
