History

A long time ago, on a server far, far away…

Rival came into being when a number of Star Wars Galaxies players got bored and went to play World of Warcraft together, got burned out on 40-man raids, and went back to Bloodfin server. Keesa previously had been very active in the PvP community on Bloodfin and was invited by HARM to return under their tag and start up the shenanigans once more.

At the time, Rebel PvP presence on Bloodfin was outnumbered, so a few former adversaries stepped up to fill the gap: Fist of Khaos (FoK) offered to grind faction to join the Rebellion, Vassago and fellow ex-Pirate Lords promised to play nicely with others, and a few former FIGHT members returned to the game, lured by the promise of all the PvP they could handle. Keesa and Cabol formed a new guild solely for PvP. Rival was born. PvP was revived.

However, with the release of the NGE, dreams and ambitions were curbstomped. All interest in SWG was lost. With no other MMO beckoning, the coalition disbanded. Keesa went into seclusion, FoK and FIGHT returned to their various homeworlds in the vast wasteland of online gaming, and the last remaining person turned off the lights and locked the door. Darkness swept across the “internets” and it appeared all hope was lost.

Then the promise of Star Wars: The Old Republic came to call. Once again, the old forces of Rival and FoK joined together to fight against the Empire. The Rival tag was resurrected with Keesa leading the charge. The old ideals of PvP were brought to bear in both Warzones and the open world. New members were found, Imperials were scattered, raid bosses felled. It was a prosperous era for Rival.

Sadly, such times did not last as the staying power of SWTOR was not what all had hoped, and the endless gear grind and lack of content soon had Rival looking elsewhere. After a short and disappointing stop in Guild Wars 2, a new hope was found in a visionary with dreams of making “the best damn space sim ever.” The Star Citizen chapter of Rival was born with numerous original and veteran backer accounts.

Now with the next generation of management in place, and with Keesa remaining as an advisor and confidant, Rival races to grow its membership while preparing to earn its way in the ‘verse…

Manifesto

The purpose of Rival is to bring like minded players together in a competitive but supportive atmosphere. A particular skill level is not required. A desire to improve, and help others improve, is. Rival always has each others backs and will come to the aid of fellow members when in peril.

We seek people who want to experience the game as a whole. We attempt to wring as much content as possible out of any game we play. We believe in playing the game the way you want to play. Whether you like bounty hunting, exploring, mining, shipping, or simply standing in your hangar yelling at the kids to get off your space lawn, Rival has a place for you.

That being said, Rival was created as a PvP guild, and while it is no longer our sole focus, it is still a defining function. We want members who want to be a part of a team. To achieve success as a group, we’ll have to learn to fly together in an organized manner. We’ll need to develop and execute tactics and strategies that will only be achievable with practice and dedication.

On Piracy: Rival’s official stance on piracy is that we have no official stance. Our unofficial stance is that we will not ban such behavior so long as it does not negatively impact the guild; we would hate to have to shoot down a member’s ship… without mercy… repeatedly. Piracy is a form of content in this game and we would be remiss to deprive the membership of that experience. Though if piracy be your main endeavor, there will most likely be guilds that can better accommodate your needs.

We use Ventrilo as our primary form of in-game communication. We also like to use it for the social aspects it brings, such as guild Happy Hour (Friday nights, 9-12 EST). It is not mandatory but highly recommended.

Our main goal above all else is to have fun. We realize that there is life outside the ‘verse (as disappointing as that may sound), so it is important that our time spent in game is enjoyable.

If what you’ve read sounds appealing and you would like to join our happy band of misfits, please click on the apply button and one of our officers will contact you. See you in the ‘verse!

Charter

Rules:

Adherence to Wheaton’s Law is strictly enforced.

We do not hack, exploit, break ToS, or discriminate against other players by virtue of ethnicity, gender, or lifestyle in guild chat, game chat, or Ventrilo.

Rival is a no whining zone. It is acceptable to vent in guild chat about in-game annoyances, but it does not belong in the general public. Trash talk? Yes, within reason and with class. Hate talk? Not in this guild. We aspire to be class acts, and embody this wherever we go.

Gaming is conducted cohesively, competitively, and without nerd rage. We expect to be outnumbered and occasionally outgunned. No one throws keyboards, screams in Ventrilo, or logs out in the middle of battle. We stick together and we learn together. Each member is expected to strive for excellence, and to be a valuable team player, whether in PvP or PvE.

Guild members are expected to aid the operational readiness of the organization by contributing, or aiding in the contribution of, resources to ensure quick response times to calls for aid, as well as maintaining the ability to stay competitive with similarly sized organizations.

Application Process:1

Interested in joining? Great! Here’s how you go about it. Click on the ‘join us now” button at the top of the page, fill out our application, and an officer will contact you in order to set up a time to talk. At the time of your “interview,” you will speak with at least one of our officers who will ask a series of hard hitting questions (hint: one is pirates or ninjas), and have a conversation about what you want to get out of the game. If all goes well, you’ll be admitted to the guild on a trial basis. When that happens, jump on Vent and get to know the group. The more you interact with the membership, the quicker we will know if you are a fit for Rival and you will know if Rival is a fit for you. If you are a fit, you’ll be a full member before you know it!

1 Application process is subject to change at the whim of our Tyranical Fearless Leader.
